In a fitting acknowledgement on International Women’s Day, hardworking Bankstown District Amateur Football Association General Manager Leanne Millar was announced as the 2023 ‘Bankstown Woman of the Year’ for her invaluable contribution in supporting the growth of football in the area.

Leanne’s love for the game started with the East Bankstown Football Club as a volunteer administrator – from there on, she became a life-member of the club.

It’s no secret that Leanne played an instrumental role in working to help grow the sport of football throughout all of Bankstown implementing a number of key initiatives to target increased women’s and girls participation as well as supporting children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to participate.

Leanne has implemented several new programs at Bankstown District Amateur Football Association since her arrival that has seen record number of young girls and women in Bankstown playing football for the first time.

In recent years, Leanne has also seen the growth of Bankstown United FC in the Football NSW men’s competitions, with her expertise helping secure a new home at the Padstow Park synthetic field in 2023 and the club providing even more opportunities for local footballers to test their skills at representative level.

Member for Bankstown Tania Mihailuk MP paid a glowing tribute to Leanne Millar on her achievement.

“Prior to resigning as the Member for Bankstown I was able to submit a nomination for the 2023 ‘Bankstown Woman of the Year’ as part of the International Women’s Day

“Leanne is a deserving winner of the Bankstown Woman of the Year Award and I trust that the entire football community will agree with me that nobody deserves this recognition more than her.”

Football NSW would like to applaud Leanne for such an incredible achievement, well done!
