As part of Football Australia’s player pathways, the FA National Technical staff featuring Trevor Morgan, Brad Maloney, Davide Del Giovine and Ian Crook all conducted a small group training session (SGT) on Monday at Valentine Sports Park for players who were selected from the recent TSP tournaments.

“This small group training was the first in what Football NSW hopes will be a regular occurrence following on from Talent ID events such as the TSP tournaments and gives our players the chance to show what they can do, whilst also being provided some good individual detail from national team staff,” said Football NSW’s Player Development for Boys Phil Myall.

Football NSW has also announced that it will be revisiting the Elite match schedule as part of the FA player pathways.

The Elite matches form an integral part of the overall identification of potential players from both the boys and girls groups.

They act as an essential part of the filtering process to play high level match minutes selecting players that have demonstrated excellence in their Boys Youth League / Girls Youth League, clubs and have replicated that form as part of the Talent support program matches and tournaments.

The Elite matches and small group training provide important touch points for National Team Staff to observe players both on and off the field.

They use these opportunities to interact and connect with the players and coaching staff, providing insights into the individual technical detail that is required at National Team level.

“Football NSW is delighted to be able to provide the offering of Elite matches and clearly demonstrates the close alignment that the Football NSW technical team and the FA have when it comes to player development,” said Football NSW’s Technical Director Warren Grieve.

“The Elite matches and small group sessions are a part of our selection process but that said, they certainly are not the only opportunities. The selection process is ongoing and does not begin and end here.

“We have created an environment where we encourage players to be the best version of themselves. There are no guarantees, players must want to invest in themselves and be intrinsically motived to take ownership of their own development.”

The first Elite match will take place on Wednesday 10th May at Valentine Sports Park.
