Well renowned performance coach Nick Marr recently took part in a Football NSW coaching workshop to players and parents from the Talent Support Program (TSP) at Valentine Sports Park to assist in increasing self-awareness as well as giving them tools to help their mindsets with not only football but in life.

This was the first of many Workshops set to focus on improving not just the player but the person and their environments.

Marr was delighted to have presented to the TSP players born in 2007 and their parents as he looked forward to delivering more in the not-too-distant future.

“We are working towards a vision where every person lives well, realises their greatest potential on and off the field, and positively contributes to their community,” said Marr.

“The workshops delivered to the players were designed to specifically support them in gaining awareness of their mindset, beliefs and attitudes towards football and themselves. Players were able to recognise the impact of their mindset on health and performance, leaving the workshop equipped with tools that have enhanced their mental health, self-regulation, and focus, also unlocking their confidence.

“With parents being one of the greatest influences on a child’s wellbeing and sporting experience, it is critical that we provide opportunities for them to receive valuable insights in relation to their child’s health and sporting experience.

“Further, it is essential that we offer parents practical tools that help them in being a steady and supportive presence throughout the ebbs and flows of their child’s football journey. The desire parents possess to provide the utmost care for their child and engage in workshops like these is inspiring.

“Thank you to all the players and parents involved for making it a special experience – and a big thank you to Phil, Warren and Ed for their vision and commitment towards making the wellbeing of our football community a fundamental pillar in football development across NSW.”

Football NSW Technical Director Warren Grieve acknowledged the positives Marr discussed during his Workshop, that will only benefit both players and parents moving forward in their lives and hopeful footballing careers.

“The mindset presentation delivered to the parents highlights the importance of the psychological and social impacts young players face not only in football but everyday life.

“Nick Marr is a leader in this field and was able to clearly articulate to the parents how the previous workshops delivered with the players focused on awareness and confidence, creating a framework that encourages positive environments where players can grow and develop whilst also having time to self-reflect.”
