Football NSW has announced the appointment of Steve Bond as a Director while Deborah Chapman has been re-appointed as an Appointed Director.

Steve recently held the position of Head of Communications for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand and has previously held a similar position at not-for-profit organisation, Take 3 for the Sea.

Prior to that, Steve spent close to a decade in communications roles at Chelsea Football Club, having begun life as a Sports Journalist and later Editor for UK press agency, Sportsbeat / News Associates.

On 9 October 2023, the Board appointed Steve to fill a casual vacancy in a Director position which arose because of the shortage of candidates standing for election at the Football NSW Annual General Meeting held in March 2023.  Steve’s term will expire at the conclusion of the AGM in respect of the 2025/26 financial year which is to be held by the end of March 2027.

“We are delighted to have someone of Steve’s pedigree involved with our sport,” Football NSW Chairman Gilbert Lorquet stated.

“We are confident that Steve will complement the existing Directors and contribute greatly to the growth and success of Football NSW going forward.

“Having someone of Steve’s experience in the Marketing and Communications sector and his recent history having been involved with English Premier League giants Chelsea FC as well as heading communications for the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup, we know his expertise will help improve the organisation.”

While Deborah Chapman, current Chief Financial and Operating Officer Infrastructure of NSW, had previously been appointed as an Appointed Director with her initial term due to expire on 1 November 2023.

At the September Board meeting, Deborah was re-appointed as an Appointed Director for a further term of two years expiring on 1 November 2025.

Since February 2022, Deborah has also been the Chair of the Football NSW Audit & Risk Committee.

“Deborah has been tremendous since coming on board and has taken on several portfolios especially with regards to audit, finance and risk,” said Football NSW Chairman Gilbert Lorquet.

“With her recent re-appointment, we will see Deborah assist the organisation in becoming more accountable and sustainable for the greater good of the game.”
