Football NSW announce second Legacy Referee Scholarship intake
Football NSW is excited to announce the second intake of the Legacy Referee Scholarships are now open.
There are two scholarship categories currently open for nominations:
New Referee Scholarship
Football NSW are looking for females who are interested in becoming either football or futsal referees. Scholarships include:
- Course cost of Level 4 Referee (or Futsal Referee) Course run by Football NSW
- Referee starter pack
- Laws of the Game book
- Kappa referee shirt
- An invitation to attend the Proctor Park Challenge in Bathurst (arrival on the afternoon of Friday 9th, tournament held over 10th & 11th February 2024) as a referee. Your food, accommodation and a travel allowance for the weekend will be included as part of your invitation.
Nominations will close on Friday 17th November 2023. Scholarship recipients will be contacted by Friday 24th November 2023.
Jess Pabian, a scholarship recipient from the inaugural intake praised the Legacy Referee Scholarships initiative.
The referee scholarship has been great in teaching me further rules and details about football.
“I enjoyed the Zoom sessions as it enabled me to be in the comfort of my own home.
“I really enjoyed the training session at Valentine Sports Park, learning signals with the flags, referee tips and connecting with some amazing women who are also completing the course.
“I am looking forward to continuing my referee training, making more friends along the way and refereeing football matches for people who love the game.”

Referee Coach Scholarship
Passionate about developing and supporting the next cohort of female referees?
This scholarship is for qualified female referees who are interested in getting their assessor qualification to coach and mentor young up and coming referees.
Scholarship includes:
- Course cost of Level 3 Referee Assessor Course run by Football NSW
- Mentoring on a match where you coach a young referee
- Referee coach notebook and Laws of the Game book
- An invitation to attend the Proctor Park Challenge in Bathurst (arrival on the afternoon of Friday 9th, tournament held over 10th & 11th February 2024) as a referee. Your food, accommodation and a travel allowance for the weekend will be included as part of your invitation.
