Round 7 Review – League One Women’s

Round 7 in the Football NSW League One Women’s was a showstopper after a weekend of thrilling contests which saw two stoppage time goals to change results.
There are six games to run the rule over from Sunday including the Match of the Round between Blacktown Spartans FC and Blacktown City FC.
Let’s get onto the review.
Match of the Round: Blacktown Spartans FC 1 defeated Blacktown City FC 0
Blacktown Spartans FC won 1-0 against Blacktown City FC at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans earned bragging rights over their local rivals with their success. Doveinah Vine scored the only goal in the 46th minute with a thumping finish that gave them all three points in the contest.
Blacktown City FC battled hard but their achilles heel again was their work in front of goal across the 90 minutes. Their best chances fell to Aleyna Tufanoglu and substitute Ana-Liese Lobos in the game.
Blacktown Spartans FC and Blacktown City FC walked onto Blacktown Football Park for their local derby contest.
The visitors held the ball for much of the opening stages of the game and probed for their first chance of the game.
Blacktown City FC offered up the first set piece of the game. Rhea D’Mello whipped in the set piece which flew wide.
The Spartans followed up with their own opportunity. Doveinah Vine broke into the box and shot right at Blacktown City FC keeper Amy Harkin.
Next, the Spartans had their own free-kick chance. Lili Rosandic put it in and it was easily taken by Harkin.
D’Mello stood over another set piece in the 25th minute. This time, she whistled it past the right post.
The visitors were still searching for the opener. Aleyna Tufanoglu fired an effort right at Spartans keeper Ella Stewart.
Spartans authored their own chance as the game drifted to half-time. Mira Thomas rolled an effort at Harkin.
Rosandic had some quick thinking from a free-kick to spot Milena Visser free on the left but the striker ballooned the shot over.
The hosts kept pushing to find the back of the net. Paris Vinuya stole the ball, cut inside and forced Harkin to plunge down to her right to save.
Spartans got the jump in the second half to make it 1-0. Substitute Ridae Mohammadi threaded through Doveinah Vine to stroke home in the 46th minute.
The visitors tried to find an instant response through their substitute. Annabel Forbes got into the box but fired at Stewart.
Some brave keeping from Harkin kept the visitors only down one goal. She palmed the cross into the path of Eleonara Daga but smothered the follow up.
Blacktown City FC surged forward for the equalizer winning several corners which were swept away by the Spartans defence.
Spartans almost doubled their advantage from the set piece. Rosandic put the corner right on the head of Visser to nod wide.
Substitute Ana-Liese Lobos tried to sneak one into the net but her shot went gratefully into the hands of Stewart.
Headed into the final ten minutes, Blacktown City FC were hunting for an equalizer in this local derby.
Lobos had another chance to strike at goal. She turned well but rolled it wide of the right post in the 87th minute.
Blacktown City FC threw everything at the Spartans in stoppage. Stewart made a pair of key stops to prevent them and earn the hosts the win.
Post match, Blacktown Spartans FC coach Lachlan Raymond reflected on a positive performance from his side:
“I think it has been coming for us in recent weeks, we had a few frustrating results and to win the local derby is a big lift. We aren’t hiding that we’re in a rebuild but the girls have dug in and I can’t fault their effort.”
For Blacktown City FC coach Michael Hawthorne, he reflected a dominant display from his side:
“I thought we were the better side tonight, knocked it around well but fell asleep for 30 seconds which saw us concede. We’re a young side, we’re getting better each week and just need to put the ball in the back of the net.” said Hawthorne.

SD Raiders FC 5 defeated Sutherland Strikers FC 0
SD Raiders FC were 5-0 winners against Sutherland Strikers FC at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
SD Raiders FC made it five games unbeaten with an assured display in their first home at Ernie Smith Reserve this season. Amelia Savetta made it 1-0 for the hosts in the 38th minute then she doubled her delight in the 44th minute for 2-0. Taiana Almeida added the third goal in the 45th minute for a 3-0 lead at the break.
The hosts kept the pressure on in the second half to put on a five-star clinic and earned three points. Abigail Boag found the back of the net for 4-0 in the 68th minute then she got her brace in the 70th minute for 5-0.
St George FC 3 drew with Central Coast Mariners FC 3
Points were shared in a pulsating 3-3 draw between St George FC and Central Coast Mariners FC at Barton Park.
This game defined the phrase ‘tale of two halves’ as both teams dominated a portion of the contest. St George FC found the opener in the minute from an own goal for 1-0 then Janan Codmani scored for 2-0 in the 11th minute. Morgan Maxwell added the third in the 18th minute for a 3-0 lead going into the sheds.
Central Coast Mariners FC were a changed team in the second half and looked to drag themselves back in the contest. Eliza Familton pulled it back to 3-1 in the 77th minute then Natalia O’Driscoll brought it back to 3-2 in the 80th minute.
The game was set up for a grandstand finish and the Mariners brought the house down in stoppage time. Lily McMahon whipped a free-kick into the top corner for 3-3 in the 92nd minute and snatch a point for the visitors.
Camden Tigers FC 1 defeated by Inter Lions FC 2
Inter Lions FC won 2-1 against Camden Tigers FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions bounced back after their defeat last weekend and picked up a valuable three points against a team close to them on the ladder. Paola Andrea Giraldo Uribe made it 1-0 for Inter Lions in the 10th minute with a top corner finish.
Camden Tigers FC equalized in the 79th minute through Ellie-Leigh Lontis for 1-1 and the game looked headed towards a draw. Enter substitute Georgina Sarkissian, she latched onto a cross from captain Zoe Katsionis to volley home for 2-1 Inter Lions FC in the 90th minute to huge celebration from the visitors.
Nepean FC 0 defeated by South Coast Flame FC 6
South Coast Flame FC were 6-0 winners against Nepean FC down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Flame are three games unbeaten with a dominant display against Nepean FC in Sydney’s West. Abbey Crapp made it 1-0 for the Flame in the 26th minute then Emily Kostovski scored for 2-0 in the 29th minute before substitute Bessie Riethmuller made it 3-0 at the break after her 33rd minute goal.
South Coast Flame FC burned brightly in the second half with more blistering goals to hit Nepean FC for six. Crapp got her second in the 49th minute for 4-0 then Riethmuller also got a brace in the 58th minute. Mikayla De Jong rounded off the display with the final goal for 6-0 in the 80th minute.
Hills United FC 1 defeated Marconi Stallions FC 0
Hills United FC won 1-0 against Marconi Stallions FC in their game at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday afternoon.
The win moves Hills United FC back to the top of the League One Women’s ladder but they had to grind out the result tonight. These two contenders traded blows in the early stages before Marconi Stallions defender Daniela Brekic was sent off in the 11th minute which left them down to ten players.
Having a player advantage didn’t instantly bring profit for Hills United FC as Marconi Stallions FC dug in to deny them chances and the game went into the break at 0-0. The hosts remained patient in their build up and knew the goal would arrive.
It came in the form of Gemma Woolley in the 65th minute. She made it 1-0 to Hills United FC with a precise finish. The hosts were able to see out the rest of the game with ease and remain one of two sides unbeaten in the league.
