The 57-year-old comes from a strong refereeing background which has seen him officiate well over 50 international matches which included games in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
Lorenc holds the record of being the first Australian born and bred referee to be appointed to a World Cup but he has also officiated in the 1988 Women?s World Championships in China and both the 1987 and 1993 World Youth Cups in Chile and Australia.
Lorenc?s refereeing career spanned from 1965 to 2005 which has seen him officiate at all levels of the world game.
The whistleblower joined the Gladesville-Hornsby referees in 1965 before he progressed to the then NSW Federation in 1969 where he was refereeing the top NSW State League in 1972 at the tender age of 21.
From the NSW State League, Lorenc was then promoted into the inaugural National Soccer League in 1977 where he refereed in both the 1987 and 1993 Grand Finals and took part in well over 300 NSL matches.
His performances in the National Soccer League were rewarded in 1993 when he took out the NSL Referee of the Year.
Lorenc was also the FFA National refereeing manager from 2005 until early 2009 which saw him responsible for selecting and appointing the inaugural A-League referees as well as managing all match officials for FFA/National Tournaments over the past four years.
Currently a FIFA/AFC inspector and instructor, Lorenc?s experience on both the local and global refereeing scene has only furthered Football NSW?s dedication towards developing referees.
Lorenc was pleased with his announcement as Football NSW?s new Referees Coordinator and stated his excitement upon accepting his new role.
?I would like to thank Football NSW for giving me the opportunity to take the referee?s department onto the next level.
?I hope to get the referees the best resources available, improve the refereeing standard in NSW and also hope to develop future referees for the A-League, W-League and National Youth League,? Lorenc ended.
