Futsal Mens Premier League: Soutter scores a hat-trick as the Quake shake up Benfica
The result was a disappointing one for newly promoted Benfica who up until now had always maintained a competitive scoreline against premier league opposition.
After a fast opening spell in which both teams had chances on goal it was Quake who opened the scoring when Shane Soutter intercepted a loose ball out of defence laid the ball off to Danny Martinez whose shot squeezed under the keeper and into the net.
A minute later the Quake made it 2-0 from a lightening fast counter attack where Danny Martinez was able to return the favour when he received the ball his own half and quickly fed the ball across court for Soutter to slide the ball in at the far post.
Benfica were full of running and were having their chances on goal but generally Quake were slickly moving the ball around the court, forcing Benfica back and drawing them out of position.
The Quake got their third goal when Shane Soutter picked up the ball mid court and ran fast at the defence side stepped to the right and blasted his shot across the keeper into the left corner of the net for a terrific goal to make it 3-0.
The goal left Benfica with a mountain to climb so early in the game but they fought hard to get into the contest as Osmar De Barros shot wide from an acute angle, Ali Bazzi shot across goal and De Barros had another shot blocked.
Stefan Donevski almost made it four for the Quake when he received the ball in his own half and ran at the keeper Costa D?Addona who was well out of his goal area. To avoid Costa?s sliding tackle Stefan managed to sweetly backheel flick the ball over the keeper but the ball ran on too far before he could regather.
Leading up to half time Stefan Donevski forced a great save from Costa D?Addona, Pablo Alcantara had chances that went just wide or blocked by the keeper and Danny Martinez shot against the crossbar but Benfica dug in hard and the score remained 3-0 at the break
The second half began well for the Quake when Danny Martinez curled a freekick around the wall and found an unmarked Stefan Donevski to tap the ball in from close range.
Stefan Donevski worked a nice one-two with Danny Martinez but Donevski?s shot went wide from close range.
Halfway through the second period and Quake went further ahead goal when Benfica lost possession in their own half, the ball was quickly fed to Shane Soutter who slotted the ball home to make it 5-0.
Benfica kept peppering away at the Quake goal, Mark Pinto fired just wide and Batista who was now deputising in goal kept coming upcourt to try his luck from long range.
Benfica got the goal they deserved when Batista intercepted a ball and quickly passed to De Barros then fed the ball to Jacob Marjca who shot slammed into the top corner off the fingertips of keeper Gavin O?Brien for a fine goal.
Benfica nearly scored again when De Barros set up Ali Bazzi but his shot struck the post.
Much to the joy of the Benfica side they pulled another goal back when Jacob Marjca grabbed his second of the game when his low hard shot took a slight deflection off a defender on its way into the net to make it a more respectable 5-2.
The second goal brought a flurry of activity into the game and Benfica put the pressure on Quake for a third with keeper Batista having pot shots from distance but Campbelltown held off Benfica?s late rally with three late goals.
Jimmy Gilligan got on the score sheet when he cracked the ball home from close range to slow down Benfica?s late charge.
In the last minute of the game Jake McGing set up Danny Martinez for the seventh goal and Pablo Alcantara grabbed the Quakes eighth goal to round off the scoring for an 8-2 victory.
Benfica had a lot of chances on goal throughout the game but couldn?t convert many of their attempts and the final scoreline doesn?t do them justice.
In the end the Quake were well organised and played some great fast one-touch Futsal that their opponents couldn?t cope with.
