The White Eagles? ruthless display against Manly United suggests little hope for its chasers, as the side continues to grow with each outing.
The Wolves magnificent attacking display saw the side net six goals against Sydney United, however some concern for the Wolves side will be the three goals conceded.
Sutherland?s indifferent season continued as the side was surprisingly beaten at home by Rockdale City Suns, meanwhile Sydney Olympic claimed bragging rights in the eagerly anticipated showdown with stern rival, Marconi Stallions.
The spoils were shared in the battle between APIA-Leichhardt Tigers and Parramatta FC at Lambert Park meanwhile in the Blacktown derby, Blacktown City FC kept its 100% record against its rivals with a 2-1 defeat of Blacktown Spartans.
Sydney Olympic 2 Marconi Stallions 1
Reigning champions Sydney Olympic secured a vital three-points in its home match ? played away from home ? against Marconi Stallions at Marconi Stadium on Saturday evening. Trailing the Stallions 0-1 after 10? minutes following a well-worked, and exceptionally well taken, goal from Nathan Elasi, a tense encounter ensued as both sides battled for midfield supremacy.
The Stallions task at hand was made difficult moments before half-time however, as defender Andrew Mailer was shown a second yellow card in somewhat bizarre circumstances.
The Blues made the numerical advantage count just after the hour mark as a pinpoint Phil Makrys cross from the right found the head of Ibrahim Haydar who diverted the ball home past Lachlan Tibbles ? the goalkeeper made his debut in the Stallions goal.
Marconi had clear chances to restore its lead via the boots of Daniel Severino, Nathan Elasi and Joey Gibbs, though in somewhat cruel circumstances 3? minutes from the end, a massive scramble inside the Stallions? penalty-area saw Chris Triantis convert from close-range to seal the win for Sydney Olympic.
Sutherland Sharks 1 Rockdale City Suns 2
Newly crowned Waratah Cup winners Sutherland Sharks were brought back to earth by Rockdale City Suns at Seymour Shaw on Saturday as Mark Rudan?s men scored a late 2-1 win to keep its hopes of finals football alive.
Alec Urosevski opened the scoring with a powerful finish past Nathan Denham just after half-time, the Suns goal much deserved for a fine first-half showing.
Sutherland found its way back into the match when Niko Tsattalios finished off a neat Sharks move to draw his side level, however the joy was to be short-lived.
At the other end, on 83? minutes, Pece Cvetanovski sent a thunderous drive into the back of the net to secure the Suns maximum points and sole hold of sixth-spot on the League ladder.
Manly United FC 1 Bonnyrigg White Eagles 4
Bonnyrigg White Eagles further strengthened its hold on top-spot with a fabulous showing in the 4-1 defeat of Manly United FC at Cromer Park.
Prolific striker Robbie Younis and attacking midfielder Aleksander Canak bagged a double each for the White Eagles in a performance that pleased coach Brian Brown at the final whistle.
Younis? opener arrived on 8? minutes when he spotted goalkeeper Dylan Mitchell off his line. From 22-yards, Younis lobbed the shot-stopper to send the ball into the back of the net.
Canak double Bonnyrigg?s lead on 27? minutes with a fine volley at the back post, before Younis headed his side?s third goal on the hour mark.
Manly United?s Matt Sim pulled a goal back with a tap-in for the Northern Beaches side in the 79? minute before Canak added a fourth goal in the 90? minute with another top class finish.
South Coast Wolves 6 Sydney United 58 FC 3
Nine goals were scored in the showing at John Crehan Park as the Wolves returned to second spot on the ladder with an emphatic 6-3 defeat of Sydney United 58 FC.
Ricky Zucco netted a tremendous hat-trick in front of the Wolves supporters, his first a deft lob over the goalkeeper on 8? minutes. Samuel Jacob added a second for the Wolves 2? minutes later before Peter Simonovski converted on 23? minutes when he was sent through on goal, one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
South Coast was relentless as defender Michael Robinson took advantage of a poor Reds clearance to drive the ball home for a 4-0 lead on 35? minutes.
Sydney United managed to bag a goal on 45? minutes via a Mario Simic corner. The heavy curl on the ball had the Wolves defensive line struggling as Elsid Barkhousir got the final touch to send the ball into the back of the net.
Following the re-start, Mirjan Pavlovic re-opened the encounter with a strong header to make it 4-2 to the Wolves, though any hope of a comeback went out the window as Ricky Zucco scored what is arguably the front-runner for goal of the season. The Wolves ?magical man? turned on the halfway line and sent what seemed an overly ambitious attempt on goal. The Wolves talent spotted goalkeeper Robert Kolak off his line and hit his shot to perfection, much to the delight of the home supporters.
Daniel Barac brought Sydney United back to 3-5 with a powerful drive into the roof of the net on 73? minutes, however Zucco sealed his hat-trick 6? minutes later when he was sent one-on-one with Kolak before slotting the ball home for the 6-3 win.
APIA-Leichhardt Tigers 0 Parramatta FC 0
APIA-Leichhardt and Parramatta FC shared the spoils in a rather lacklustre affair at Lambert Park on Sunday. In the end, the 0-0 result was somewhat harsh on the Tigers who should have converted one of the many first-half chances created.
Andrew Bevin and Ethan Gailbraith were constantly denied by the Eagles? Matthew Nash in goal ? the shot-stopper a former APIA-Leichhardt player.
In a disappointing second-half, the Eagles nearly snatched the win late on with a few half chances, though all in all, those present at the ground were far from impressed with the showing from both sides.
Blacktown City FC 2 Blacktown Spartans 1
Blacktown City FC made it two-from-two in the Blacktown derby matchups for this season with a 2-1 defeat of Blacktown Spartans.
The former NSW Premier League champions created numerous goal scoring chances, though failed to put the match away early.
Ray Miller?s solo effort setup Sean Rooney for the opening goal in the 6? minute, before the Blacktown City onslaught commenced.
Mark Crittenden?s men however had to wait until the 80? minute to double its lead. Miller again was the orchestrator with a neat cross into the path of Yuchi Yamauchi who drove home for the 2-0 lead.
The Spartans re-opened the contest in the 87? minute when Greg Kondek blasted a fierce finish past Luke Turnbull ? the young goalkeeper replaced Brody Crane in the 9? minute after picking up a groin injury.
The goal did make for a nervy finish for Blacktown City, though the side managed to administer proceedings nicely to grind out the win.
