With traffic around Ash Road Sporting Complex in Prestons about to increase significantly, State Member for Menai and Liberal candidate for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons says she can help improve safety at the Liverpool City Robins Football Club’s home ground.

The Robins’ ranks are bursting with player registrations, up a whopping 25 percent from last year, which will put further pressure on a crumbling carpark and test the security of the playing fields.

“We’ve got to see that we can help them out with some fencing and particularly car parking, the last thing we want is for someone to get run over. We need to see how we can help them out there,” Ms Gibbons said.

A new committee at Liverpool City FC has breathed fresh life into the 48 year old club, with an influx of kids about to experience football for the first time; “Quite a few of them haven’t played before but we’ve got good coaches who’ve been coaching for more than five years and as our kids grow up we’re teaching them,” Club President Duane Cambridge said.

Meanwhile the push for a major redevelopment of Ernie Smith Reserve to become a Home of Football in the Southern Districts Association is gaining momentum with Liverpool City Council and the State Liberal MP indicating their support for the project; “It will give that area a new sense of life. Moorebank hasn’t had an injection like that for a long time and I think that would help them greatly,” Ms Gibbons said.

15,000 players in the Southern Districts Association would have access to the proposed $3.2 million redevelopment which includes a field with a synthetic surface; “We don’t have any synthetic pitches in Liverpool and we’re looking for a year round facility to keep our participants involved all year round,” Southern Districts President Andy Favaloro said.
