SUNDAY afternoon at Cromer Park saw a trip down memory lane when Manly United hosted their third annual Back to Manly Day celebrations in the clubhouse.

The hugely popular event, now in its third year, seems to grow in stature every 12 months.

Unfortunately come 3pm the first grade men’s squad couldn’t register a first up win versus Sutherland, losing 2-0, but that didn’t matter to the estimated 100 plus guests who lobbed at 1pm to chat about goals, send-offs, premierships and other treasured memories from yesteryear.

Fox Sports football presenter Adam Peacock was the MC, and one time Warringah Dolphins coach John Kosmina the guest speaker.

"The place has certainly changed since I was here coaching state league in 1995,” Kosmina told the audience, who were hanging off every word the ex Adelaide and Sydney FC boss said.

"To now see a fantastic pitch and the Lucas Neill Grandstand shows the level of professionalism these days.

"Cromer Park is a place of happy memories for me, I will never forget my time at the club."

Peacock, who lives locally on the peninsula, first interviewed Manly United ladies skipper Bella Walker and then men’s captain Brendan Cholakian about their expectations for their respective 2016 state league campaigns.

Long serving Manly United general manager Jeremy Toivonen feels it is important to recognise historical ties to the club.

"We want to publicly thank our loyal servants who turn up week after week, year after year,” he said.

"It is vital we also show the players at all times we have their backing.

"The (Back to Manly Day) event is always well received, which is great, and we will aim to make it bigger and bigger every year."

Ex United player and coach Phil Moss was one of the invited guests and he loves the concept.

"I am huge fan, it was something I championed when I was here,” he said.

"Manly has always been a well-run club who know their limitations, but at the same time provide a genuine pathway for those chasing higher honours in the game.

"I can tell you from first-hand experience they are a club well regarded by A-League teams as well as by Football Federation Australia.

"I always love coming back here, I bleed Manly."

Other high profile guests included FFA media man Dave Mason, Manly Warringah Football Association president Jeff Smit and Ed Neill, father of ex Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill.
