Coastie Mcfarlane striving for Grand Final success
As one of the newest clubs in the Football NSW, Central Coast United have had a whirlwind start to their existence taking away every possible trophy ahead of yet another Grand Final this Sunday afternoon at Valentine Sports Park.
As they look ahead to climbing the ladder even further, we caught up with captain Daniel Mcfarlane to preview this weekends fixture.
“We have definitely been a part of a whirlwind couple of seasons, the club has grown enormously in such a small space of time”
“The key behind is a strong nucleus of characters in the dressing room who keep on top of things, and obviously Stuart Davis, Matt Crowell. not to mention Dean Heffernan and the other coaching staff.”
Personally, McFarlane has been one of the best players to grace the fields of the State League Men’s competition once again this season. He is however adamant to stress the team aspect of the football club.
“Very cliché but I’m not one for personal awards” he continues.
“I did not join Central Coast United for myself, I did it to be a part of something special on the Central Coast and to provide an extra representative pathway for young kids in our area.”
“Personal form is always good don’t get me wrong, but as you have seen I have played in about 6 different positions this season, so I’ll do what is needed for the team!”
Looking forward to climbing the ladder to NPL NSW Men’s 3, the club are under no illusions as to what’s ahead.
“We’re Expecting a tougher season and it brings us to a higher level for our young kids coming through which is what we were striving for!”
But first they have an important clash this weekend in the grand final and they hope to finish their tenure in the competition on a high.
“The boys are looking forward to the game, we were pleased to right the wrong of our lackluster performances against them from the season in the semifinal. We know they are a good side who like us deserve to be in a higher league, so it will be an entertaining game for fans!”
