Elite NSW Women’s football launches in style

The 2023 National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s and Football NSW League One Women’s competitions were launched on Saturday at Valentine Sports Park in what is set to be one of the biggest seasons to date.

Host Stephanie Brantz and co-host Adamo De Nigris were joined by players from all 28 clubs, referee representatives, club delegates, and members of the wider football community in a celebration of the season ahead.

NSW CEO John Tsatsimas was thrilled about the growing interest in the female game and the strides being made in the space.

“2023 promises to be one of the biggest seasons yet as excitement continues to build around Australia’s co-hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” he said.

“This year, we’re also proud to be launching the Sapphire Cup women’s knockout competition, representing another important step towards gender parity in football.”

“We have some of the best talent from Australia on show in our leagues and I want to encourage the wider community to get out and get behind our clubs in 2023.”

The launch featured a panels of both current and former players including Sydney University SFC star Bianca Galic, ex-W-League ace and now Macarthur Rams stalwart Alex Huynh, and former NSW Sapphires player, now Football NSW’s Head of Women’s Football, Hayley Todd, discussing the state leagues, progression in feature female and the impact of the NSW Football Legacy Program.

A panel of NPL NSW referee representatives also took to the stage to discuss their experiences, the routines and preparations of football officials, and referee development.

Various player representatives from each of the leagues also had the opportunity to discuss their views on the season ahead.

The NPL NSW Women’s competition kicks off on Sunday 12th of March while the League One Women’s competitions commence on Saturday 11th of March. You can view the opening fixtures here. (Toggle through the menu bar for the respective league)
