Round 11 Futsal Premier League 2 – Open Women’s Review
Round 11 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition was a weekend full of decisive results which has shaken up the ladder. The three games were all close fought contests and saw SD Raiders Futsal suffer their first defeat. The Match of the Round saw APIA FC Futsal and Raiders Futsal Club battle in a top four clash. Let’s get onto the review.
Match of the Round: APIA FC Futsal 3 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 4
Raiders Futsal Club won 4-3 against APIA FC Futsal down at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.
APIA FC Futsal scored their three goals in a flurry early in the second half which handed them a 3-2 lead before they were pegged back late. Rebecca Watts got the party started in the 23rd minute then Isabella Stinziani levelled in the 24th before Alice Bowles gave them the lead once again in the 25th minute.
For Raiders Futsal Club, it was a rollercoaster game. They led 2-0 thanks to goals from Amelia Savetta in the 13th and Angelina Powell in the 16th before it was pulled back. Savetta and Powell each picked up a brace in the 35th and 37th minute to help them run out winners.
The hosts set the early pace in the contest. Isabella Stinziani fired straight then Zoe Zaczek rifled an effort over.
Next, Rebecca Watts had a low shot saved well by Raiders Futsal Club custodian Jasmine Crouch.
Raiders Futsal Club had their first effort soon after from a quick combination. Amelia Savetta set up Nicole Ossio who cushioned an effort against the frame of the goal.
It continued to be APIA FC Futsal pushing the pace. Watts couldn’t turn home then Stinziani was denied at close range again.
Brittany Hammond tried to get the visitors going with a shot on the run which fizzed wide of the mark.
Stinziani once again found space but her rasping drive was tipped away well by Crouch as the game looked for the opener.
Raiders Futsal Club made it 1-0 in the 13th minute. It was a rapid counter from the visitors and Savetta rolled home.
APIA FC Futsal tried to respond with an effort of their own. Stinziani pushed forward and had another strong shot.
The visitors made it double delight in the 16th minute. They worked the ball around the pitch before Angelina Powell smashed home for 2-0.
They were able to hold off APIA FC Futsal headed into the break and held a two-goal advantage at the change of ends.
APIA FC Futsal made a quick start to the second half and turned the game around in quick fashion.
Watts brought it back to 2-1 in the 23rd minute. It was a well directed poke which found it’s way past Crouch.
APIA FC Futsal brought it back to 2-2 in the 24th minute. Stinziani arrowed an effort into the top corner.
Full of confidence, APIA FC Futsal kept moving forward. Alessia Dal Pane provided the perfect pass for Alice Bowles to tap home for 3-2 in the 25th minute.
After that whirlwind of goals, Raiders Futsal Club needed to take a deep breath. Ossio helped that with her cutting effort which fizzed wide.
APIA FC Futsal kept pushing for more goals. Bowles unfurled an effort right at Crouch then Yumeka Yajima was denied well.
Crouch then turned provider to make it 3-3. Her lob found Savetta on the charge, she was repelled the first time then dug the ball home in the 35th minute.
The game was stretched as both teams looked for the winner. Zaczek drove an effort straight then Stinziani followed up with a shot.
Raiders Futsal Club made it 4-3 in the 37th minute. Powell showed off her power with her effort which flew into the net for her brace.
APIA FC Futsal huffed and puffed with all their might but couldn’t blow the Raiders Futsal Club house down and take something from this contest.

Macarthur Quake Futsal Club 2 drew with West City Crusaders 2
Points were shared in a 2-2 draw between Macarthur Quake Futsal Club and West City Crusaders at Minto Indoor Sports Centre.
The point moves the Quake off the bottom of the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s ladder while it dents the finals hopes of the Crusaders. Charlotte Owen made it 1-0 for the Crusaders in the 14th minute before Dana Buttigieg equalized for Quake in the 18th minute for 1-1 at the break.
Crusaders took the lead again in the second half through Owen. She fired home in the 26th minute for her brace and made it 2-1. Quake worked hard and forced an own goal in the 34th minute for 2-2 as the sides shared the spoils.
SD Raiders Futsal 2 defeated by Sydney Futsal Club 4
Sydney Futsal Club won 4-2 against SD Raiders Futsal at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors are the first side to put a dent in SD Raiders Futsal’s armour this season with a loss. Golden Boot leader Cynthia Coghlan made it 1-0 for Sydney Futsal Club in the first minute before Miriam Zumaya levelled in the 4th minute for 1-1.
Isabella Sultan gave SD Raiders Futsal a 2-1 lead in the 8th minute then Mya Callil found the back of the net for the visitors in the 14th minute for 2-2. The second half was all Sydney Futsal Club as Coghlan fired home for 3-2 in the 27th minute then Mia Nataly added a fourth in the 30th minute for the big win.
