Day one of the 2025 National Futsal Championships in Melbourne is in the books following a spectacular day of action at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne.

Over 3,000 players, family members and fans were in attendance across the day, with Football NSW represented by 31 teams across for the tournament.

A number of Football NSW teams showed their strength from the outset, none more so than the U15 Metro Boys who amassed a whopping 18 goals in an 18-2 annihilation of Football South Australia (FSA). Nine players managed to get on the scoresheet, topped by Xavier Miech who notched five goals for an impressive start to the tournament.

The Football NSW U13 Girls Thunder began their tournament with a dominating 12-0 win over FSA, Selena Mifsud scoring five while the U14 Boys Thunder put 10 past their FSA opponents.

Both the U12 Boys and U16 Boys Thunder outfits claimed 9-0 wins over Football NSW Country and Northern NSW respectively, Alesana Dickson scoring four goals for the U12s.

Meanwhile in the U17 Girls division, the three Football NSW teams sit first, second and third, with each registering two wins in their opening three rounds, with the Lightning and Thunder teams only dropping points against one another in an even 2-2 affair.

Football NSW’s reigning Open Men’s Champions (Thunder) made a solid start to their title defence with a rousing 7-1 victory over Football Victoria Navy, Grant Lynch starring with a four goal tally. The Open Men Lightning team also got off to a positive start, beating Capital Football 6-3.

The Open Women Lightning and Thunder teams made it four wins from four for Football NSW’s senior teams on day 1. Thunder won 3-0 over Football West in Pool B while Lightning defeated FQ Maroon 4-2 in Pool A.

Football NSW Futsal Manager and Futsalroos star, Jordan Guerreiro, was delighted with the start to the Championships.

“As a state, I thought we did quite well with respect to the results and the performances themselves,” he said.

“There were some great individual performances from several players  and I’ve been impressed with the style of futsal our teams have brought to the tournament, proving to be both creative and brave.”
