Football NSW continues to impress at Futsal National Championships
Day 2 of the 2025 National Futsal Championships in Melbourne has come to a close, wrapping up another exciting day of futsal action.
Almost 6,000 fans, players and family members packed into the State Netball and Hockey Centre to watch over 50 games across seven pitches, with the best players in the country delivering a plethora of thrills throughout the day.
After two days of play, a majority of Football NSW teams have placed themselves into strong positions to book a place into finals with Friday’s results set to determine final group placings.
A standout performance among the Football NSW contingent came from the Under 15 Girls Thunder side who defeated Football NSW Country rivals 5-0. Sophia Paz impressed with with the ball at her feet, illustrating some ultra-classy skills that have now seen the young star net eight goals for the tournament so far. The dominant Thunder outfit now sit with four wins from four, having scored 26 goals and conceded just one.
In the Youth Men competition, there were wins for all three Football NSW teams with Lightning downing Football Victoria (FV) 6-0, aided by a hat-trick to Bayley Mclaren, Thunder winning 7-2 over Football Queensland (FQ) and Country defeating Football South Australia (FSA) 10-4.
The U17 Girls Thunder registered two convincing victories, defeating SA 5-0 and Storm teammates 6-1, Marlee Deane scoring five across for the day.
Both the U15 Boys Metro and U14 Boys Thunder sit top of their respective tables with three wins from three following a 6-1 win over FV and a 7-2 victory over Football Tasmania respectively.
Other big wins were registered by the U13 Boys Thunder, who put 12 past FSA (12-2), and AWD Thunder who inflicted a heavy 12-0 defeat on Football NSW Lightning rivals.
Meanwhile in the Open divisions, it was a challenging day at the office for Football NSW teams with both Men’s teams experiencing narrow defeats to Victoria and the Women’s teams unable to register points.
