Round 22 Preview – League One Women’s

Much like a certain song dominating the airwaves lately, round 22 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition is hot to go headed into the final month.

There are seven games to run the rule over including the Match of the Round between St George FC and Central Coast Mariners FC on Sunday night.

Let’s get onto the preview.

Match of the Round: Sutherland Strikers FC vs SD Raiders FC, Sunday 28 July, 3:30pm, Harrie Denning Centre

Sutherland Strikers FC face off against SD Raiders FC at Harrie Denning Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Strikers made it five wins on the bounce after their 2-1 win against Central Coast Mariners FC last weekend.

Custodian Chantelle Symes and the Strikers defence helmed by Josephine Konjarski and Rosie Degnan were vital in their win.

Sutherland Strikers FC play their catch-up game against South Coast Flame FC on Wednesday afternoon to kick off a big week.

SD Raiders FC were 5-1 winners against Inter Lions FC in their game at Majors Bay Reserve last Sunday afternoon.

The young side have been one of the excitement machines of the League One Women’s competition and this game should feature plenty of goals.

Miriam Zumaya has provided some key goals for SD Raiders FC and she will be keen to find the back of the net again.

This game is live streamed on the Football NSW YouTube with ‘Dublin’ Dave Feeney behind the microphone for an important clash.

St George FC vs Central Coast Mariners FC, Sunday 28 July, 6:40pm, Barton Park Field #3

St George FC take on Central Coast Mariners FC in their game at Barton Park Field #3 on Sunday night.

The Saints continued their unbeaten run after their 3-0 win against South East Phoenix FC down in Nowra.

Kyla Vanderlaan has been a valuable part of the St George FC attack and scored the opener in their win on Sunday.

The hosts were beaten 2-0 by the Mariners back in Round 9 so they will be seeking revenge at Barton Park.

Central Coast Mariners FC took the lead before they fell to a 2-1 loss against a resurgent Sutherland Strikers FC side.

This is a big game for the Mariners who need three points to keep up their chase of a League One Women’s finals spot.

Eliza Familton scored in their mid-week success against Marconi Stallions and her link up with Claire Denning up top will be key.

Marconi Stallions FC vs Blacktown City FC, Sunday 28 July, 3pm, Marconi Stadium #2

Marconi Stallions FC welcome Blacktown City FC to Marconi Stadium #2 for their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions had a comfortable 3-0 win against Nepean FC in their game at Marconi Stadium #2 last weekend.

Erinn Cleghorn had a first half double in the result to take her to four goals for the season and ready to fire again.

After a rough start to the campaign, coach Michael Beauchamp has molded the Stallions side into his vision and looking to towards a brighter end to the season.

Blacktown City FC fought back before they fell to a late 2-1 loss to Hills United FC at Bella Vista Public School.

The visitors hope the wheel might turn soon for them after losing a few games in the late stages in the last month.

Cassidy Chidgey was their goal scorer against Hills United FC and she has an eye for goal which will help Blacktown City FC.

Bankstown City Lions FC vs South Coast Flame FC, Sunday 28 July, 3pm, Jensen Park

Bankstown City Lions FC host South Coast Flame FC in their game down at Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions battled hard in a 2-1 loss to Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC in the Match of the Round last weekend.

Youngster Maya Miller has slotted into the Lions midfield well and she will help push them forward in this game.

Bankstown City Lions FC were beaten 1-0 back in Round 9 against South Coast Flame FC and will be hoping to level the season ledger.

South Coast Flame FC had a stirring comeback in their 3-1 win against Camden Tigers FC on Saturday afternoon.

The Flame have made a habit of late comebacks in recent weeks and will provide a stern test for the Lions.

Jessica Cruickshank scored twice off the bench in the success and might be an option late in the game for coach Daniel Naumovski.

Nepean FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 28 July, 3pm, Cook Park

Nepean FC take on finals chasing Hills United FC in their game down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts were beaten 3-0 by Marconi Stallions FC in their last game played away from home on Sunday afternoon.

They will take the improved second half performance into this game and hope to avoid another heavy defeat against Hills United FC.

In a tough season, Nepean FC have blooded some young talent including Kaia Woodward from their most recent game.

Hills United FC were back on the horse after their 2-1 win against Blacktown City FC at Bella Vista Public School.

It was a good bounce back from their close Sapphire Cup defeat and coach Alan Tasses will hope Sunday can spur them towards a strong final month.

Aisling Davidson has been the leading light in the Hills United FC back line and she will be ready for action again on Sunday.

Camden Tigers FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC, Sunday 28 July, 3pm, Ron Dine Reserve

Camden Tigers FC host Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers took a lead before they were beaten 3-1 by South Coast Flame FC to open Round 21 last weekend.

It is a busy week for Camden Tigers with their catch-up game against Nepean FC on Tuesday night which ended in a stalemate.

They will look towards Charlotte O’Flynn to lead from the back alongside to help shut down the rampaging Town Rangers.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC kept on trucking after their 2-1 win against Bankstown City Lions FC last weekend.

Defender Emily Kos had the formula in the win to shut down the Lions potent attack in the result and has been a valuable addition for the title chasers.

The Town Rangers remain on top of the League One Women’s ladder and face a tough last month in trying to reach their goals.

South East Phoenix FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 28 July, 3:15pm, South Nowra Football Complex

South East Phoenix FC take on Inter Lions FC in their game at South Nowra Football Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Phoenix will be keen to bounce back after their 3-0 loss to St George FC at the same venue last weekend.

Lena Hennequin scored a double last time these two times met and she hopes to find the back of the net again.

South East Phoenix FC did win 3-1 in the previous game against Inter               Lions FC and look to repeat the dose.

Inter Lions FC were beaten 5-1 by a blistering SD Raiders FC team at Majors Bay Reserve last Sunday afternoon.

Caitlin Webster was their lone goal scorer in the defeat and she will be keen to add to her tally in this game.

The Lions head down the highway aiming to restore some pride and win their second game of the League One Women’s season.
