Carpenter shoots for the stars

during the round two W-League match between Western Sydney and Brisbane Roar at Marconi Stadium on October 25, 2015 in Sydney, Australia.

It’s been a whirlwind few days for promising young 15-year-old female footballer Ellie Carpenter.

The Cowra born defender grabbed headlines for blitzing her way into the Westfield Matildas’ setup, winning a call-up by coach Alen Stajcic for a quick-fire training camp in Canberra this week.

Currently a regular fixture with the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Westfield W-League, Carpenter was part of the Western Branch SAP program before the family picked up and left for the big city in Sydney where she developed through the Football NSW elite programs.

Attending Westfield Sports High School, Carpenter has shot for the stars and has a golden opportunity to further impress Stajcic and the Matildas coaching staff in Canberra hoping to entrench herself as a permanent member of the squad.

The squad are preparing for February’s AFC Asian qualification tournament for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics.
