Titans Fun Day a Huge Success
The Cooks River Titans Football Club held its Fun Day last Sunday at Gough Whitlam Park in Earlwood.
Being the first year of the Club’s existence it also doubled as its Season Launch and Inauguration Day.
The Club was formed late last year in co-operation with the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association to address a void in the coverage of soccer on the outskirts of Earlwood, Wolli Creek and Undercliffe.
The founders of the club have a goal for the Cooks River Titans to be a community club which provides opportunities for people of all ages, races, religions and gender to play the game of football for enjoyment.
The success of the Socceroos certainly justifies the emergence of new clubs to be able to cater for the ever increasing popularity in the sport.
Over 200 children and adults attended the day as did several dignitaries including Federal Members of Parliament Nickolas Varvaris and Anthony Albanese, State MP and deputy opposition leader Linda Burney, Canterbury Mayor Brian Robson, local Councillors Con Vasiliades and Esta Chilas-Paschalides, Chairman of the Canterbury Association Michael Bourdoulis and football media personality Andy Paschalides.
The formalities were few and the speeches were brief to allow people to mingle with the VIPs, enjoy the great weather and food and allow the kids to play for hours.
President of the Titans Nick Kambounias gave the crowd a brief background of the club as well as the initiatives planned for the year ahead including the Tiny Titans designed for children 2-5 years of age, school holiday clinics, close collaboration with the local schools, a working relationship with Sydney FC, a sister relationship with Sutherland Titans who are a club specifically set up to provide opportunities for the disabled, a clinic and seminar with a coach who is currently employed by the giant Manchester United and more.
Mr Varvaris, Ms Burney, Mr Robson and Mr Vasiliades were all made patrons of the club. A special presentation was also made to Kyriakos Lazarides (aged 10) who became the very first registered player for the Club.
Parents and children alike walked away extremely satisfied with what this fledgling club has to offer. The Cooks River Titans have arrived in a big way. To find out more simply visit www.cooksrivertitans.com.au
