The NPL Technical Director Workshop was treated to some Brazilian flavour as Football NSW hosted Vasco De Gama’s Technical Director Gabriel Bussinger on Tuesday evening.

As many as 35 NPL Technical Directors as well as representatives from the Football NSW Leagues clubs and Associations were treated to a Workshop masterclass by one of the world’s best.

Bussinger provided context of the Brazilian coaching life cycle and analysed his approach providing differential and specific development plans not just for players, but for coaches as well.

The Brazilian discussed that youth development in Brazil is based on freedom and creativity of the players.

He also discussed his methodological approach of the academy players, managing their in-house academic commitments and their football as well as exploring the importance of both pillars from his experiences.

“We want coaches to guide players to find their North,” said Bussinger.

“We want to support players with trails, not rails. We don’t want to constrain them to one approach, we want to put them on the right path and let them work out how to get to the destination.

“As a coach we need to apply our focus on coaching better every year.”

Football NSW’s recently appointed Club Technical Development Coordinator Alex Epakis was inspired by what Bussinger presented to the group.

“Gabriel provided a fascinating insight into the culture and nuances of technical development and coaching in Brazil.”

“Gabriel also shared his framework and development approach towards his players and coaches as the Vasco De Gama TD, ensuring his approach is fit for purpose within the Brazilian football landscape and encouraging our coaches to think deeply about their own methodology.”

Gabriel is currently in Australia and will feature in this weekend’s sold-out Football NSW Coaching Conference taking place at Valentine Sports Park.
