Steve O’Connor appointed Technical & Elite Manager for Sydney Olympic FC

Sydney Olympic officials stated that they were proud to have someone like Steve on board as he adds his name to the long list, of successful coaches, trainers and technical directors that have worked for this historic Club. Players will have the chance to meet and work with Steve during our School Holiday Camp that will be held during July. 
Steve O?Connor has coached at the highest level for youth in Australia and is arguably Australia’s most experienced Youth Coach. Steve held the position of Head Coach at the Australian Institute of Sport Men’s Football Program for 12 years and is also the former National U/20 Young Socceroos Coach. 
During this period Steve?s Young Socceroos won the Weifang Cup in China. This is the lead up tournament to the Asian Qualifiers for the Youth World Cup. Steve then successfully coached the Young Socceroos to the second round of qualifications for the last Youth World Cup.
In 2008 Steve joined Sydney FC as Youth Coach and Technical Director winning the inaugural National Youth League and Grand Final.  
Steve has extensive knowledge and experience in coaching and identifying many of Australia’s most successful players, Brett Emerton, Vince Grella, Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Mark Bresciano, Luke Wilkshire, Nikita Rukavtsja, Lucas Neil, Criag Moore, Josh Kennedy to name a few.
Steve is a member of the FFA Hall of Fame, Medal of Excellence and has played 288 National League games, with 44 International appearances for the Socceroos.
He has also won 5 National Championships with Sydney City and one National Championship with St George.  Steve was employed by the FFA to scout opposition for the 2006 World Cup Campaign. He has also held the position of Technical Director for Football NSW and is a former PE Teacher.
