Futsal Premier League Round 2 Review

There was one draw in the tightly contested round, whilst the other three matches were all decided by either two goals or one goal, as the competition demonstrated its ability to put on some very even matches.
The high scoring 7-5 win for Dural Warriors over Campbelltown Quake was the highlight of the round.
Sydney City Eagles and Boomerangs FS play out draw
Sydney City Eagles and Boomerangs FS shared the points in a tight affair, both sides scoring as the match finished 1-1.
It was always going to be a tight game between two sides looking to play good Futsal and in the end their respective abilities cancelled each other out at the Dural Sport and Leisure Centre.
Boomerangs FS face a tough match against competition favourites Dural Warriors next weekend, but they will be buoyed by their performance here.
Sydney City meanwhile, host Mascot Vipers at Penrith Regional Valley Sports Stadium, in what will be another fascinating clash.
Inner West prevail over Mascot Vipers
Mascot Vipers let a 1-0 half time lead slip, going down 3-1 to Inner West Magic.
Pat Di Salvo’s goal was all that separated the two sides at the break, before a Stephen Kayes hattrick settled the match in Inner West’s favour.
Andreas Gomez had a fantastic game for Inner West Magic, playing a major hand in the second half fightback.
Zvi Ben David was nonetheless pleased with Vipers’ performance.
“We played brilliantly in the first half,” he said.
“We really, really played well.
“Unfortunately the boys fell asleep at the start of the second half.
“Overall though, we’re happy.
Ben David continued, “Winning isn’t everything for me.
“I want people to enjoy the game.”
Dural Warriors edge high scoring thriller against Campbelltown Quake
Campbelltown Quake are ruing the one that got away after going down 7-5 at home to Dural Warriors.
Quake started well against the competition favourites and raced to a 4-1 lead. 
They were in control, despite conceding a late goal, and they took a 4-2 lead into the half time interval.

In the second half the momentum shifted the way of Dural Warriors, who scored twice in quick succession to draw the match level at 4-4. 
Danny Martinez, who had already scored twice for Quake, was sent off for a second yellow card in the second half. 
Warriors kicked clear to lead 6-4 and then 6-5, but with Quake now chasing the game, they were able to put the game to bed late on by adding a seventh.
In addition to Martinez, Josh Purton, Shannon Fielding and Dean Lockart were in the scoresheet for Campbelltown Quake.
Their manager Carlo Martinez was disappointed with the manner in which they let their lead slip.
“We started off like a house on fire,” he said.
“We were 4-1 up and in control, but the first five minutes of the second half was woeful.
“Momentum shifted after Danny Martinez was sent off.
“It was the one that got away.
“We have to learn how to close out games, because we know we have what it takes, but at this level you can’t have lapses like that,” he added.
Warriors coach Rob Varela was relieved to come away with victory.
“We started off very slowly,” he said.
“Quake started well and we had to adjust in the second half.
“Our attitude and intensity was far better, we applied defensive pressure far higher up the court and we didn’t allow them to play,” he added.
Phoenix narrow victors over Enfield Rovers
Phoenix Futsal Club prevailed by the odd goal in seven, winning 4-3 in a classic encounter.
After going down 1-0, Chris Cowley’s side came back strongly to lead 2-1, before eventually prevailing 4-3.
Chris Dingwall netted a double, with Shane Watson and Matt Orlich chipping in as well.
Cowley was very happy with the performance of his side.
“It was a very good performance, and we worked very hard,” he said.
“They boys showed a lot of grit and determination.
“We signed Darryl Fernandez during the week and he was outstanding and our goalkeeper Elliot Jurd made some very good saves at the end.
“Overall I’m very happy with the match,” he added.
