Capital shock Boomerangs

Capital FC were simply irresistible in a stunning 6-2 defeat of second-placed neighbours Boomerangs FS at Mpowerdome, Canberra, on Friday night.

Capital FC opened the scoring through Nicole Jalocha in the 4th minute, but Boomerangs FS hit straight back with a Doris Osman strike in the 6th minute. Jalocha added another in the 14th minute, along with Najwa Allen (19th) to give Capital FC a 3-1 lead at half time.

Allen and Natalie De Marco opened the scoring in the second half (both in the 23rd minute) for Capital FC, before Nicole Somi added one for Boomerangs FS in the 34th. De Marco got her second in the 37th minute to see Capital FC get a 6-2 win.

It was Capital FC’s maiden hummel F-League win and dented the premiership hopes of their ACT-rivals.

Sydney, Brisbane draw

League leaders Sydney Scorpions were held to a 1-1 draw by a terrific South Brisbane Futsal Club at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.

A first-half goal to Claire Walsh (17th) gave Sydney a 1-0 halftime edge in what turned out to be a titanic tussle, and things got even tighter when Gabrielle Marzano hit back for the Queenslanders in the second half to make it 1-1… the fulltime whistle ending a fascinating contest.

While both sides had chances to conjure up a winner the game almost seemed destined for a draw. Out of a total 10 hummel F-League Women’s stalemates (from 77 matches) Sydney Scorpions have played in six of them and South Brisbane five – they’ve also endured three deadlocks from their four encounters.

South Brisbane are certainly showing signs of travelling with ease – they’re unbeaten in four interstate trips.

Dural Warriors extended their lead in the 25th minute through Dominique Caridad. Ashleigh Bucknall put South Brisbane on the board in the 37th before Sarah Yatim scored again in the 38th minute giving Dural Warriors a 6-1 win over South Brisbane.
