Granville and District Soccer Football Association side Auburn FC were crowned 2019 Atkinson Price Challenge Cup Champions defeating Highlands Soccer Association’s Marulan FC 3-2 in a thriller at David Wood Playing Field in Bowral on Sunday.

Known as Australia’s oldest football silverware, the Atkinson Price Challenge Cup was formed way back in 1887 and it was fitting that both teams played out a memorable match which saw the trophy head to Auburn.

After the Cup went missing for more than a century, the two associations recently agreed to revive the contest and honoured the Scottish heritage of the original Granville FC and Joadja Creek teams which also included a bag piper leading both teams out pre kick-off.

The day was a complete success with the local Highlands Soccer Association Champions Marulan FC putting in a spirited performance.

Earlier in the day, Highlands Soccer Association Champions Moss Vale were defeated by Granville Champions Rydalmere Lions FC 7-1 while Moss Vale defeated the Granville Waratahs 3-2 in the Under 15’s clash.
