Website-Story

The stage is set as Football NSW kicks off its Female Football Week celebrations today by honouring and admiring our amazing coaches, referees, administrators, volunteers, clubs, and supporters all of which have played an integral role in the development of the women’s game.

A number of exciting events and promotional activities will be conducted across NSW as clubs from grassroots to our elite recognise the initiative Football NSW first pioneered in 2014 which has now become a nation-wide celebration of females in all aspects of football.

Launching today, the week-long event will fittingly conclude on Mother’s Day

Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge highlighted the importance Female Football Week played in the organisation’s calendar.

“As Football settles into the 2021 season, it is fantastic to see a total of over 87,000 female participants registered in football of all roles associated at both Association and NPL levels weekly.

“We are so proud to be collectively promoting Female Football Week kicking off today until the 9th of May but let it be said that we should always be celebrating our wonderful Female participants and what they give to our beloved sport.

“The buzz is building from grassroots to our National Premier Leagues about the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the massive boost that this will give to female football right across Australia as the eyes of the world will be centred around us.”

Football NSW’s Strategic Projects Manager Jo Fernandes was looking forward to the week’s festivities.

“There is a special camaraderie that comes from being involved in football, both on and off the field.

“Female Football Week celebrates this in the women’s game and highlights the opportunities for girls and women to be involved at all levels of football, as players, coaches, referees, administrators, and volunteers.

“This is such an exciting time with just over two years until we see the world’s best players on our shores, so really every day from now on is a celebration of female football.”

While it will be a first-ever Female Football Week for recently appointed Game Development Coordinator for Schools, Women’s and Girls Sam McGowan who stated her delight in playing a role with coordinating the many events taking place this week.

“I’m so excited to be coordinating Female Football Week this year.

“To see first-hand the commitment of our Associations and Clubs, their support of the game for girls and women, and their enthusiasm in organising activities for next week, is really inspiring.

“There are such a wide range of promotions and events being held, it really is going to be a wonderful week celebrating female football and I hope everyone can be involved and support the activities on offer.”
