Round Eleven of the Futsal Premier League Open Women’s competition sees things start to heat up in the race to the finals with a new candidate emerging to challenge the top four.

Meanwhile, Mascot Vipers and Eastern Suburbs Hakoah are trading blows in the race for top spot and Inner West look to continue their new found form.

Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club v Dural Warriors; Saturday 19 November, 3:40pm, Valentine Sports Park

Campbelltown City Quake and Dural Warriors will be looking to return to winning ways after they picked up a point last weekend.

It’s the second straight top four clash for the Quake who are in a good run of form over the past month. Coming back from behind twice against a strong Hakoah side to earn a draw last weekend, they showed their gritty side on court in round ten. But it’s also worth touching on who wasn’t on the court then as Tegan Bertolissio, Maya Lobo and Peta Trimis (who scored for the quake last weekend) all featured for the young Matilda’s!

Tough ask though as this Dural Warriors side have proven they’ve got what it takes to feature in the Semi-Finals in a months’ time. Last weekend did show that there is still improvement to be had though from a consistency point of view. Having found themselves with a two-goal lead at the break courtesy of a brace to Sheiden Jabour, they saw that lead dissipate in the second period. In probably our pick of the weekend’s fixtures, let’s see how they react to that setback.

Last Meeting: Dural Warriors 2-1 Campbelltown City Quake

UTS Northside Futsal Club v Inner West Futsal Club; Saturday 19 November, 4:30pm, PCYC Dee Why

On the end of the shock of the season last weekend, Fourth placed UTS Northside host Inner West as they aim to turn things around.

Brief midseason dip in form or something to worry about? It’s been a tough couple of weekends for UTS Northside who have lost to both first and then last on the table. Last weekend, they were perhaps feeling the effects of not having their usual depth late on when Mountain Majik scored three times in the last ten minutes. Emily Bastow and Anneke Corry scored twice to bring them back level earlier in that half. With the Quake picking up points behind them, it’s important that they don’t lose this one.

In a battle at the bottom of the club championship, every win is going to count for Inner West and they just managed too last weekend. And it was important they did so cause from here on, it gets that little bit tougher. Anyway looking back at last weekend, Ceyda Cambaz scored the goal, but it was Courtney Halpin, Tara Pender and Ella Martins who earned their coaches’ plaudits. The pressure will be somewhat off them in the remaining weeks, so can they secure an upset or two?

Last Meeting: Inner West 2-3 UTS Northside

Mascot Vipers v Mountain Majik Futsal Club; Saturday 19 November, 4:30pm, Sydney Olympic Park Sports Halls

Fresh off their first win of the season Mountain Majik travel east to face competition leaders Mascot Vipers, Saturday afternoon.

Starting off with the hosts though because they do sit on top of the standings after ten weeks. Yeah, the Vipers seemed to have timed their charge this season perfectly. Last weekend, they showed a lot of character coming back from a deficit with a depleted second half squad leaving coach Zvi Bendavid proud. Aside from the goal scorers, it’s worth keeping an eye on Mikayla Duong who has made the step up to the women’s set up seamlessly.

After waiting ten weeks, a win finally came for Mountain Majik in round ten action and it’s one we didn’t see coming. Matching up against a top four side in UTS Northside (granted they only had one sub). The Majik found there scoring grove putting a season high five goals past their opposition. Angelique Lynch and Clare Holder both scored twice in the second half to take them to victory. And who is to say they can’t throw another cat amongst the pigeons this weekend?

Last Meeting: Mountain Majik 1-3 Mascot Vipers

Enfield Allstars v Eastern Suburbs Hakoah Futsal Club; Saturday 19 November, 5:50pm, Morris Iemma Indoor SC

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah will be favourites when they take to the pitch to face Enfield Allstars at Morris Iemma Indoor SC.

On paper, the fixture comes at a good time for Eastern Suburbs Hakoah who had a tough couple of fixtures last week. Losing a midweek fixture to Mascot Vipers, they could only get a point from their meeting with an in-form Campbelltown City Quake. Zoe Anderson and Marcella Santos put them ahead twice in that one, but they couldn’t pull away from their opposition, having to settle for a point. Far from panic stations, a win here could see them jump to first.

It wasn’t too long ago that these two sides played out an entertaining fixture towards the end of October. And when you lose that one, it shouldn’t be too hard for Enfield Allstars to find motivation for this. On top of that, they put in a season best defensive performance last weekend against Inner West so there’s reason to be optimistic from an Enfield Allstars point of view.
