It will be a year like no other for the girls and women’s game as Football NSW prepares to launch the 2024 Female Football Week (FFW) set to take place from the 3rd to 12th of May.
Following on from hosting a successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, the hype and vibe for the women’s game is at an all-time high as it continues to soar in popularity across all facets of the beautiful game.
Female player registrations have led the way off the back of the Matildas’ performance sitting 17% up on 2023 year-to-date numbers. Young girls are joining the world game in masses with registrations up an incredible 23% year-to-date for ages 5-12, setting the foundations for a positive future for football in NSW.
There has also been significant growth in female coaches with an incredible 35% year-to-date increase while gains have also been in evident with female referees (24% year-to-date) and female volunteers (22% year-to-date) riding the wave of unprecedented progress.
“We are very excited to see such strong interest by clubs and Associations to celebrate the immense value women and girls make within their football community,” said Football NSW’s Acting Head of Women’s Football Helen Armson.
“With over 80 events planned across the Football NSW footprint, it’s a great time to celebrate the wonderful female volunteers, administrators, referees, coaches, and players who contribute so much to the diverse football family.
“Football NSW congratulates those who were nominated by their club for one of the five Female Football Week awards this year (Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Referee of the Year and Community Champion of the year) and we look forward to recognising them and celebrating all female successes further over the next 10 days.”
