Round 6 Review – League One Women’s
Round 6 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was a feast of football across all four days with some exciting results. There were six games to enjoy, headlined by the Match of the Round between South Coast Flame FC and Sutherland Strikers FC. Let’s get onto the review!
Match of the Round: South Coast Flame FC 0 drew with Sutherland Strikers FC 0
Points were shared in a 0-0 draw between South Coast Flame FC and Sutherland Strikers FC at Sir Ian McLennan Oval on Saturday afternoon.
South Coast Flame FC and Sutherland Strikers FC strode onto a bright Sir Ian McLennan Oval for an important early season clash.
Jasmine Maguire made some in roads down the wing before planting a ball right to Olivia Lysiak who prodded straight.
Strikers continued a strong spell to open the game. This time, Ebony Freeman roamed free and unfurled an effort which Flame keeper Sophie Emery had to be alert to handle.
The pressing from the Strikers was putting the Flame under pressure. Eleonora Daga won the ball well and it fell to the feet of Ella Munro who forced Emery into another big stop.
The Flame started to find their rhythm on the half hour mark. It was a switch of play which ended with Cristina Barraza volleying over.
For the hosts, their best work came through Shaylee Meehan and Emily Kostovski who were tireless runners all afternoon.
Those two combined in the 43rd minute for an effort. Meehan flew down the left before crossing to Kostovski who fired right at Strikers keeper Chantelle Symes.
The Flame had the first chance out of the half-time break. Meehan broke free and found Kostovski who forced Symes into another save.
Symes came up strong again in the 52nd minute. She denied Meehan then it fell to Kostovski again who was also repelled.
It was almost some instant impact from Strikers substitute Matilda McParland. The ball fell to her inside the box and she ballooned it over.
The Flame surged forward looking for what could be the winner. Lara Dipple tried her luck from outside the box but Symes collected easily.
Headed into the 87th minute, Strikers tried to break quickly. Substitute Paola Andrea Giraldo Uribe struck first time straight to Emery.
Kostovski was the bright spark for the Flame all game. She rode a challenge well and fired a strike right at Symes.
Strikers captain Dianne Wilson lobbed in a free-kick in stoppage time but it was too close to Emery and the shot stopper claimed.
Down the other end, Alexis Malizis put in a tempting free-kick for the Flame which Symes had to punch away from the chasing pack.
Neither side could find a goal and the game ended in a stalemate between these two top half sides.

SD Raiders FC 1 defeated by Camden Tigers FC 2
Camden Tigers FC were 2-1 winners against SD Raiders FC in their clash at Cirillo Reserve on Good Friday afternoon.
The Tigers pick up their first win of the season in the M6 derby against the high-flying SD Raiders FC side. Jiselle Petrovski opened the scoring for Camden Tigers FC with a long range curler to score her maiden First Grade goal and make it 1-0 for the visitors which they held until half-time.
SD Raiders FC fought their way back into the game in the second half. Taiana Almeida chipped home in the 67th minute from substitute Abuk Nyor to make it 1-1. The game went down to the wire but there was one final twist left.
Camden Tigers FC took the derby spoils in the 85th minute through another youngster who collected their first senior goal. Noami Hart volleyed home for the visitors to make it 2-1 and they were able to withstand a late SD Raiders FC onslaught to get the result.
Bankstown City Lions FC 1 defeated by Blacktown Spartans FC 2
Blacktown Spartans FC won 2-1 against Bankstown City Lions FC in their clash at Jensen Park on Easter Sunday.
The Spartans made it four wins on the bounce with another solid display. Alannah Putica opened the scoring for the Spartans, driving into the box and finishing well for 1-0 in the 15th minute before Karen Bennett equalised for Bankstown City Lions FC in the 27th minute for 1-1 at the half-time break.
The second half was an intense battle between the two sides and the game was settled in the 70th minute for Blacktown Spartans FC. Sheiden Jabour produced a lovely outside of the foot pass into the path for Gemma Woolley to fire home for 2-1 for the visitors.
Nepean FC 3 defeated Central Coast Mariners FC 0
Nepean FC were 3-0 winners against Central Coast Mariners FC in their game at Jamison Park on Easter Sunday.
The hosts maintain their strong form in the opening six weeks with another three points to their tally. Tiana-Louise Barton made it 1-0 for Nepean FC in the 8th minute with a header which gave them a one-goal lead going into the break.
Nepean FC surged forward again in the second half and tallied again. Alyse McCutcheon scored for 2-0 with a powerful finish in the 51st minute then Eden Smith tucked home 88th minute for 3-0 to Nepean FC and another statement win.
Blacktown City FC 1 defeated by Marconi Stallions FC 3
Marconi Stallions FC won 3-1 against Blacktown City FC in their game at Landen Stadium on Easter Sunday afternoon.
This result makes it back-to-back wins for Marconi Stallions FC who move into sixth on the League One Women’s ladder. Pene Bonovas made it 1-0 for the Stallions in the 6th minute then Jasmyn Windsor doubled their delight in the 35th minute for 2-0 at half-time.
Blacktown City FC cut into the deficit in the second half through Rhea D’Mello. Their top scorer from last season made it 2-1 in the 77th minute for a big finish. Marconi Stallions FC restored their two-goal advantage in 82nd minute through Erinn Cleghorn for a 3-1 result.
Inter Lions FC 1 drew with Newcastle Jets FC 1
Inter Lions FC and Newcastle Jets FC played out a 1-1 draw at Majors Bay Reserve on Easter Monday.
The Jets were held by a determined Inter Lions FC side that had a plan. The first half was a chess match that went into half-time locked up at 0-0.
It was an action packed second half between the two sides. Jenny Hughes gave Inter Lions FC a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute with a well-taken finish.
Newcastle Jets FC had the best of the chances throughout the game. They did equalise in the 67th minute through Isabella Walshe for an entertaining 1-1 draw.
