Round 10 of the FNSW League One Men’s competition delivered plenty of movement across the ladder as the season reached the one-third mark.

The Match of the Round saw Newcastle Jets extend their unbeaten run with another three points, while elsewhere Blacktown Spartans claimed top spot with a statement win and Canterbury Bankstown took derby honours.

Match of the Round: Hills United 1–2 Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets pulled off a smash-and-grab victory over a wasteful Hills United outfit at Valentine Sports Park.

After withstanding a barrage of chances for much of the contest, the Jets turned the game on its head in the final ten minutes, with Dallo Sandy and Archie Brideson scoring decisive goals after Kaito Satori had given Hills the lead just before halftime.

The first opportunity fell to Luka Sterjovski inside the opening 20 minutes, but the forward—son of the former Socceroo—sliced his effort over the bar from a cutback.

Hills’ right-sided attack, led by Walid Moutaouakkil, caused constant problems for the young Jets side, with the hosts looking the more likely throughout the first half despite an offside call denying them an earlier opener.

Hills eventually broke through just before the break, with goalkeeper Ryan Wood initiating a quick release that allowed Moutaouakkil to drive from halfway to the byline before squaring for Satori, who finished from close range.

The Jets nearly responded early in the second half through a double chance, but Oliver Cockle and Jesse Hill were both denied from close range.

Hills continued to threaten and looked the more likely side until the closing stages, with Moutaouakkil smashing a powerful effort against the crossbar just before the hour mark.

A key turning point came with a quadruple substitution from the Jets, injecting fresh energy into the contest.

Two of those substitutes combined for the equaliser in the 82nd minute, with Noah Peacock threading a perfectly weighted through ball for Sandy to finish.

The turnaround was completed just three minutes later when Brideson arrived unmarked at the near post to guide a composed finish into the far corner.

The result extends the Jets’ unbeaten run to six matches, while Hills United are now winless in four and sit below their opponents on goal difference.

Newcastle Jets 2 (Sandy 82’, Brideson 85’)
