BDSFA Men’s Premier League Enters a New Era
The Blacktown & Districts Soccer Football Association (BDSFA) Men’s Premier League competition enters a new era in 2019.
Kicking off this Saturday, March 9, the BDSFA Men’s Premier League will now be made up of 13 Clubs, split into two divisions.
The Premier League Clubs, known as the ‘Magnificent 13’, will be made up of 1st Grade and Reserve Grade. Most Clubs will also field a Premier League Under 20’s team.
All 23-member Clubs of the BDSFA had the opportunity to enter teams in the new Premier League competition.
Blacktown Workers FC, Premier Spurs and Prospect United will have representation this season – Workers in all three grades whilst Prospect United and Premier Spurs will look to build a foundation for Premier League football via the Under 20’s competition. Polonia also come back into the fold after a year out. Workers kick off their Premier League 2 campaign against Blacktown St Pats whilst Polonia take on Minchinbury Jets. Premier Spurs will play Parklea and Prospect take on Quakers Hill Juniors in the Under 20’s.
Chairperson of the BDSFA Bill Owen, is excited about the new structure of the BDSFA Men’s Premier League competition.
“2019 brings major change for the Premier League, which now provides a clear pathway for players to progress all the way to 1st Grade. Player and Coach development are key focuses of the BDSFA, and this new structure will see a more even based competition with many more blockbuster games scheduled each weekend.”
The architect of the new Premier League competition is BDSFA Director Michael Carraro.
His focus in developing and implementing this new competition is for permanency and growth for Men’s football in the west of Sydney, “the new format will provide a far stronger competitive league whilst at the same time focus on the growth and longevity of Men’s football in Blacktown and its surrounding districts.”
Recently 1st Grade Captains and Coaches got together for the launch of the competition for a photoshoot at Blacktown Football Park.
The camaraderie shown by those Club representatives as well as their enthusiasm for the new concept augers well for a great season ahead.
The first two rounds of the competition will be played at the Blacktown Football Park precinct.
The highlight of Round 1 is a replay of the 2018 1st Grade Grand final between Quakers Hill Junior Soccer Club and Doonside Hawks Soccer Club.
Doonside have a new look team with plenty of local young players in their squad and will no doubt look to avenge last season’s grand final loss and be a force in the Premier League 1 competition. Quakers Hill on the other hand will be determined to repeat last season’s success.
Ponds FC have recruited strongly over the off season and will look to assert themselves against Ropes Crossing FC. Rooty Hill RSL FC will play Parklea in the other Premier League Division 1 game. Parklea will look to improve on last season’s form whilst Rooty Hill will look to repeat last season’s good performance.
In Premier League 2 the highlight of the round is Tigers Quakers Hill up against the talented Riverstone Gunners side. Both teams will be strong contenders for the Premier League 2 title and will look for a flying start to the season.
In the Premier League Under 20 competition the standout fixture looks to be between Ponds FC and Marayong FC.
