NAIDOC Cup – Player Expression of Interest

The NAIDOC Cup is for players turning 13, 14, 15 or 16 by 31st December 2024.

The NAIDOC Cup is an initiative of Football NSW (FNSW) and Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) supported by the NSW Football Legacy Program, a $10 million investment from the NSW Government to support football at all levels as a result of hosting FIFA Women’s World Cup matches in NSW. The NAIDOC Cup will see representative First Nations football teams from each Member Federation (FNSW & NNSWF) compete in matches over 2.5 days during NAIDOC Week. The tournament also involves opportunities for players, coaches, and referees to connect with culture.

FNSW is seeking players to be involved in the tournament in 2024, which will be held at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, Speers Point, NSW from July 10th to July 12th.

Interested players are invited to attend the 2024 NAIDOC Cup Player Trials in the April school holidays on Thursday 18th from 2 – 4pm at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood.

Players must attend the player trials to be eligible for selection. If you are unavailable to attend the trials, communication with FNSW must occur before the trial date to decide if players are eligible for selection.

Players must attend the trial to be considered for a place in the squad. If this is an obstacle, please contact Annabel Meadley: annabelm@footballnsw.com.au

Cost to participate: $100

To be eligible for the FNSW NAIDOC Cup team you must:

– Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

– Be born in 2008/2009/2010/2011

– Be a registered football player within the national PlayFootball registration system to a FNSW affiliated club

– Provide official Club contact

Trials will be conducted by NAIDOC Cup and TSP coaches at the mentioned time/location. Players must complete this form to register for the trials. Players will not be considered for selection without completing this form. Players must attend the trial to be considered for a place in the squad. FNSW and NNSWF will both select U14 & U16 female and male squads consisting of up to 16 players in each. Upon completion of the trial process FNSW will contact players who have secured a place in one of the squads and communicate the next steps.

To be considered as an eligible player/coach for NAIDOC Cup, please upload one of the following:

  • A letter of “Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent” provided by an Aboriginal Community organisation. This must be stamped with the organisation’s common seal of certification.
  • A letter from an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation or Aboriginal Medical Service that recognises you as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. This must contain the organisation’s letterhead.
  • A Statutory Declaration. This is a legal binding document demonstrating your child’s identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. The Statutory Declaration must be accompanied by any of the following:
    • Proof that you are an Abstudy recipient;
    • A letter from an Indigenous person employed in an Indigenous identified position. For instance, an Aboriginal School Liaison Officer or Aboriginal Community Worker. This must contain the organisation’s letterhead;
    • A letter from a school that recognises you/your child as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student; or
    • A statutory declaration from a community Elder.
