Parramatta Blues outgun Northern Beaches
The Blues asserted their authority early by maintaining possession and applying all the pressure. Northern Beaches set up a zonal defence to soak up the attacks but before long Parramatta opened the scoring when Lauren Moore?s quick cross court pass found Belinda Cavallaro lurking at the far post to slide the ball home.
Despite soaking up a lot of Parramatta pressure Northern beaches were making many counter attacking raids of their own but after one raid broke down The Blues scored again when Parra keeper Erin Hunter?s long throw down court to Lauren Moore saw her cleverly head the ball over the advancing keeper then brilliantly zip around her to tap the ball in for Parra?s second goal.
Parramatta were being well marshalled from defence making it hard for their opponents to get into the game. Despite this Northern Beaches were starting to put together better passing combinations in the latter part of the half with Elyce Bates looking threatening but they could not pullback a goal before half time.
Parramatta scored just after half time to effectively end Northern Beaches hopes of getting back into the game. Nikki Ridley received the ball with plenty of defenders around her but cleverly stepped around the last defender and lashed the ball past the advancing keeper with her left foot.
Northern Beaches fought gamely to get back into the contest. On one occasion the Parramatta keeper lost possession way out of her area and raced back to stop Tiarn Powell?s long range shot with her feet. For Northern Beaches Emily Doyle, Tiarn Powell, Elyce Bates and Jenny Gorian all went close to no avail.
In the end Parramatta were always quicker and sharper in possession and well organised defensively and perhaps eased off a little as they settled for a comfortable 3-0 victory ahead of their next game with West City.
Parramatta coach Mike Corringham said they always try to press their opponents without over committing. Saying they preferred to play the one player forward with three defenders assisting the attack especially on the big courts used in semi final futsal.
