Local rivals set for Capitol Hill Estate Cup
The rivalry between two of the country?s most well-known football clubs is set to explode when Sydney United and Marconi Stallions do battle in the TeleChoice Premier League Round 2 clash on Sunday 2nd March 2008 at the Sydney United Sports Centre.
More than just the usual competition points are on the line for the two local combatants, with the match also acting as the first leg in the traditional Capitol Hill Estate Cup which is now in its fifth year.
The Capitol Hill Estate Cup was formed as part of a tribute to the two clubs? most famous contest, the 1998 NSL Grand Final.
In one of the most effervescent matches ever played in the NSL, the Stallions prevailed 5-4 on penalties after the scores were locked at 2-2.
Both teams scored goals in extra-time and had players sent off during the marathon match played in front of a packed crowd at Parramatta Stadium.
The Stallions come into this match following a 1-1 draw with TeleChoice Premier League newcomers Macarthur Rams while Sydney United recorded a credible 3-1 victory over last season?s Champions Blacktown City Demons.
David Barrett?s squad will be boosted by the return of a number of key players from suspension against the Reds as Wade Oostendorp, Chris Gomez, Kain Rastall and star striker Tolgay Ozbey will all be available for the clash.
They will join the likes of Luke Casserly, Tallan Martin, Stefan Donevski and Matthew Gordon to name a few in pushing for a Stallions victory.
Ivan Petkovic?s men will be no pushover side however, especially after their victory over the Demons.
Justin Pasfield, Luka Glavas, Petar Markovic, Joe Vrkic and Elsid Barkhousir are just some of the United names that will be all pumped up in getting a positive result in front of their vocal fans at their spiritual home ground at the Sydney United Sports Centre.
The return leg for the Capitol Hill Estate Cup will be played on Wednesday 21st May at the Marconi Stadium with kick-off scheduled at 8pm.
