TeleChoice Premier League Round 3 Review

Olymp

On a weekend that finally provided Wollongong FC and Penrith-Nepean United with their maiden victories of the competition, all eyes were fixed on the Saturday evening clash between Sutherland and Manly United at Seymour Shaw.
Both sides set the pace in pre-season with exceptional showings throughout the Johnny Warren Cup ? good form that has continued on into the TeleChoice Premier League.

On Saturday evening though, despite the close encounter played out on the picturesque Seymour Shaw surface, the Sharks were a class above their opponents.
Shane Lyons scored first for the Sharks before Brad Boardman added another goal to his fine run in-front of goal this season.

The Sharks were made to sweat it out in the final minutes of the encounter though, as Dusan Mihajlovic pulled one back for Phil Moss? men.

Sydney United, who certainly stated their case for the trophy this season with a fierce warning to opponents following last weekend?s defeat of neighbours Marconi Stallions, were denied three-points for the first time this season.

The Reds were made to play on the counter-attack against Bankstown City at Jensen Park in a first-half that saw the home-side dominate possession.

Despite Bankstown?s hold on possession, Sydney United were impressive on the counter-attack with youngster Andrija Petkovic on the left-flank causing distress for Bankstown.

James Monie led Bankstown City?s charge out of midfield, though despite a great chance to George Nohra ? and half-chances to debutant Matthew Borg and Phillip Makrys ? the 0-0 result was a fair reflection of the match.

Marconi Stallions? season has failed to launch after yet another demoralising defeat.
The Stallions were blown-away by Sydney Olympic at Marconi Stadium as Matthew Mayora stole the headlines ? for both good and bad reasons.

Mayora had the Johnny Warren Cup winners 3-0 up within 26? minutes of play, though was given an early shower after referee Kris Griffith-Jones showed the striker a straight red card following a clumsy challenge on Nathan Moulds.

The Stallions had pulled a goal back courtesy of Ante Deur 10? minutes before half-time.
Defending Champions Blacktown City Demons are still searching for their first win of the season ? despite having led the encounter after 93? minutes.

A last ditch attack by Macarthur Rams at Gabbie Stadium had referee Ryan Shepard judge Matt Pressello to have fouled the Rams? Renato Jelen ? awarding Paul Carter?s men a penalty.

Jelen converted the spot-kick and cancelled out Bruno Salas? go-ahead goal for the Demons.

On Sunday afternoon John Turner?s Wollongong FC finally secured their first win of the campaign with a closely contested 2-0 win over A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers.

Wollongong clinched the John Crehan Park encounter in the final five minutes of the match, as Chris Price 85? and Osagie Ederaro 90? denied A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt a point.
Penrith-Nepean United secured their first win of the season with an emphatic 4-1 defeat of the previously unbeaten West Sydney Berries.

Sash Tirovski had the Berries ahead after 10? minutes, though Abbas Saad?s men proved they will be a tough side to knock-off at Penrith?s CUA Stadium with a strong finish to the match.

A brace to Nathan Ralph, and single strikes from Eric Anabalon and Gregory Kondek sealed it for Penrith.
