TeleChoice Premier League Round 5 Review

The Sharks, who have been in top-form from the kick-off of the Johnny Warren Cup, did not slip-up against the Reds despite losing Brad Boardman to a rib injury and Nick Stavroulakis receiving his marching orders in the second-half.
Sydney United twice took the lead through Damon Collina and Luka Glavas inside the first 20? minutes, only to be caught by Brian Brown?s men on both occasions ? Jim Bakis and Ben Spruce respectively.
The spirited performance in-front of a vocal Sutherland Sharks? crowd saw the home-side clinch the tie in the second-half with goals to Brendan Gan and Michael Katz ? the win extending the Sharks lead at the top of the TeleChoice League ladder.
The loss for the Reds sends Ivan Petkovic?s side into fourth-spot.
Pre-season favourites Sydney Olympic collected three important points away to the struggling Blacktown City Demons.
The Blues were far from impressive in a first period dominated by the Demons, despite their fine improvements after a horrendous start to the regular season campaign.
Milan Blagojevic?s men did turn the match around in the second-half with James Kovas and Anthony Hartshorn finding the back of the net.
Blacktown City?s spirited showing did leave their coach happy with their improved performance, though the Demons? ambitions for finals football this season seem well and truly out of reach even at this early stage.
Marconi Stallions? early season struggle continued as the team from Bossley Park again failed to secure their first win of the season.
At home against Penrith-Nepean United, the Stallions failed to convert their attacking dominance into goals, leaving David Barrett?s men to settle with one-point.
Stefan Donevski and Chris Nunes ? the latter in his first-match for the Stallions this season ? were certainly up for a big performance with some great interplay, though the Stallions lacked the killer instinct in-front of goal.
Abbas Saad though, was happy with the point considering the absentees from his starting line-up.
Bankstown City finally collected their first ?three-pointer? with a come-from-behind defeat of Macarthur Rams.
Despite Bankstown City’s dominance of possession, the Rams took the lead courtesy of the impressive Sam Mort midway through the first-half.
Paul Harries failed to draw Bankstown City level from the penalty-spot as Brody Crane parried the striker?s effort.
The second period finally did bring Peter Tsekenis? side some success as Tayfun Devrimol?s 30-yard wonder-strike found the back of the net.
Robert Mileski?s winner arrived late on, though the pressure surrounding the side?s results to-date will certainly be relieved, following the win on Saturday.
Sunday afternoon matches produced a scrappy encounter at the Sydney Athletic Centre between West Sydney Berries and A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers.
A dismal first-half was brought to life in the 31? minute when Giosue Sama expertly tapped in a fine cross from Johnny Fotiadis.
The Tigers? response arrived early in the second-half when Marton Vass? exquisite through-ball picked out Robert Younis inside the penalty-area; the striker was brought to ground by Scott Baillie and the referee awarded the penalty.
Younis stepped up to convert the spot-kick, securing the Tigers a point ? although neither side was happy to settle for only one-point.
The final match of the Round saw Manly United fly into second-spot on the ladder ? one-point adrift of Sutherland Sharks.
Manly United ran riot in the second-half of their encounter with Wollongong FC, overturning the first-half 0-1 deficit to score four times in the second period.
Richie Williams and Ash Ryan scored a goal each, meanwhile top-scorer Robbie Cattanach added another two goals to his impressive tally to-date.
Phil Moss? Manly United has certainly thrown down the gauntlet to the Sharks, who beat Manly in Round 3 at Seymour Shaw.
