Bathurst ?75 and Prospect United started their season with a 1-1 draw, Dowling opening the scoring for the home side in the 8th minute, before Geata replied in the 68th minute to give the visitors a point to take with them on their long trip home.
One of the best surfaces to play football on, Birchgrove Oval, played host to an opening season rout, Balmain SC taking Penang FC to the cleaners with a 6-1 destruction. Ex- NSL star, Johhny ?jockey? Buonavoglia lead the way with a brace of goals in the 13th and 48th minutes, whilst McCormick (5th & 77th mins), Merlino (73rd min) and Richardson (81st min) completed the rout.
