Sydney FC helps Harry Williams Cup to explode

The Harry Williams Cup has been seen as a classic tournament event for the Indigenous players in taking on respective schools and club teams from across NSW.
Held in honour of Harry Williams, the first Indigenous Australian to be selected in the national team who also featured in the 1974 Socceroos side that competed in its first ever World Cup in Germany, the experienced campaigner will be actively involved in the running of the prestigious tournament.
Aside from Harry Williams, the Socceroos have seen a couple more Indigenous stars etch their names as players to aspire to such as Adelaide United?s Travis Dodd and Newcastle Jets? Jade North.
The Harry Williams Cup is a tournament developed to increase the participation rates of Indigenous players in football and providing a genuine identification opportunity for talented athletes.
Selected players in both boys and girls that have been identified from the regional and metropolitan clinics have been invited in participating in the Harry Williams Cup where they will take part in various training sessions run by Football NSW coaches over the course of the week.
Both boys and girls have been split into their respective age group categories with the boys having U12, U14 and U16 side?s while the girls will have two groups being the U14?s and U16?s.
Currently running in its third year, former A-League champions Sydney FC have also played a pivotal role alongside Football NSW in assisting towards the promotion of the Harry Williams Cup.
Sydney FC whiz-midfielder Robbie Middleby and former A-League player and current Community Football Officer Brendan Renaud will be on hand in assisting with the coaching and training of the Indigenous players during the course of the Cup.
