Arrive Alive NSW Womens Super League Round 4 Review
Arrive Alive NSW Womens Super League Round 4 Review
Round 4 of the Arrive Alive NSW Womens Super League took place over the weekend. Some very interesting results with a couple of sides tasting their first success of the season whilst some others just continued on their winning way. The Illawarra Stingrays dominance continued but the Western NSW Panthers also remain undefeated.
Illawarra Stingrays 15 (M.Carney 5, M.Heyman 3, C.Akid 2, T Kramer 2, T.Ruiz 1, E Halloway 1, own goal)
UNSW 0
The Illawarra Stingrays crushed UNSW by a whopping 15-0 margin. Michelle Carney grabbed five goals whilst her strike partner Michelle Heyman added an extra three to her season?s tally. The Stingrays were dominant all over the park however with Christie Akid and Erica Halloway also continuing their great form. It?s hard to see any side beating Illawarra when their capacity to score goals is so overwhelming. UNSW are probably wishing there?d been another washout this weekend!
The Northern Tigers scored their first win of the 2008 season with a narrow 4-3 win over Southern NSW FC. A great boost for the Tigers, whilst Southern NSW must be wondering how they?re yet to snare a point this season after a number of close results.
It doesn?t get any easier for Southern with undefeated competition leaders Illawarra coming to visit next weekend. The Tigers will be hoping that this result gets their season on a winning roll.
Northern Tigers 4 (G.Eastoe 2, R.Lewis 2)
Southern NSW FC 3 (K.French 3)
The Western NSW Panthers remained undefeated with a 2-0 win over St George FC. The Panthers are yet to concede a goal in four matches. They proved that their travelling form was a match for their home ground style with this one. Gillian Rosconi?s 17th minute goal got The Panthers going and they never looked back. St George certainly give their all every week. They?re a capable side but may be just short of matching it with the leading teams in the league.
Western NSW Panthers 2 (G.Rosconi, A.Ryan)
St George FC 0
Last week Inter Lions were denied their first win in the Arrive Alive NSW Womens Super League by a late equaliser. Today they weren?t in the mood to share the points with anyone in defeating Bankstown Wildcats by a score of 3-2. Bankstown had opened the scoring just before half time but Catherine Cannuli replied with her first goal of the season for Inter straight after the break. Brooke Cowie then scored a brace for the Lions before a late goal from Olympia Avramidis gave The Wildcats a late opportunity to pick up a point. Inter held firm however and will be buoyed by a fine effort. Bankstown have now lost two on the trot and will be looking to bounce back against St George next weekend.
Inter Lions 3 (C.Cannuli, B.Cowie 2)
Bankstown Wildcats 2 (G.Rhineheart, O. Avramidis)
The Blacktown Spartans versus Gladesville Ravens game was washed out.
A great weekend for supporters of the Northern Tigers and Inter Lions. These two teams now have something to build their seasons on. The going doesn?t get any easier from here on in for either side but a win is a big confidence boost going forward.
Illawarra still look the team to beat though. Can anyone rise to their challenge?
