Winter State League Round 6 Review

Winter State league heads into the month of June with round six being played and it was an action pack night of Futsal. There were a number of entertaining games giving the spectators in attendance some quality Futsal.
Match of the night in the women?s lived up to its billing as the only two remaining undefeated side?s Liverpool Fusion and Sydney Tragic as they battle to keep their unbeaten runs alive and neither side was prepared to give an inch. The match started at a nice tempo a steadily built throughout the opening period. Both sides were moving the ball around the court nicely however Tragic enjoying a large bulk of the possession. Tragic went into half time with a two-nil cushion.
The second half both sides were fired up but it was some fine keeping by Michelle Dingwall that kept her side in the contest. Tragic were the first to score when Dingwall save the first shot and was unlucky as the ball rebounded to the feet of one of the Tragic and she fired it home. The game was beyond doubt as the Tragic were finishing the stronger and lead by Natalie Spirovski they pressed for a fourth and were rewarded with 2 minutes left when they made it four-nil to remain undefeated and sitting top after six matches.
Men?s
A lack Luster Inner west Allstars accounted for Maccabi One-nil, Maccabi will walk away disappointed as they had a number of opportunities to put the Allstars away but the quality of Allstars was enough to get them home thanks to a late Dean Storey winner.
An Andy Mead hatrick saw the West City Crusaders ran out with convincing seven-one victors over Northern Beaches.
Plumpton kept the pressure on the top sides with a handy four-one victory in over Parramatta blues. Daniel Fogarty and Luis Freitas both getting doubles for Plumpton.
In the match between Dural in 2nd place and Eagles in 3rd, Dural started off in attack with Eagles on the defensive. Several shots at goal by Dural in the first few minutes could not find the back of the net. Eagles mounted their first attack after 4 minutes and forced a save from Dural keeper Alex Kobler. Both teams were evenly matched and defended well with the result 0 all at half time. A lapse in the defence by Dural allowed two quick goals by Eagles, V. Maric after 4 minutes. A scramble off an Eagles corner and a fumble by the keeper added a third in the 10th minute. A fight back by Dural resulted in several yellow cards to Eagles and a sixth foul on Dural’s Ben Lawson in the 12th minute gave Greg Giovenali a goal from the 2nd penalty mark. Eagles were then content to sit back in defence and frustrate the Dural attack with the final result 3-1.
Quake enjoyed a goal fest against the winless Shrie Futsal with Futsalroo Simon Keith getting a Hat-trick and Danny Martinez and Gary Seymour both getting doubles. On a sour note the hapless Shire boys lost Tim Cgouros late in the game with a suspected broken leg, at nine-nil down put his body on the line to stop a tenth goal as a result he stopped the ball but collided with the post and was taken to hospital best wishes with your recovery Tim.
The best was saved to last as the undefeated Sydney Benfica take on the confident Commodores outfit lead by the Dingwall brothers. This was a fiery encounter with the Commodores mixing it the Benfica boys. Commodores took the Lead though Nelson McLaughlin and some inspired keeping from Shane Linton kept the Commodores in the lead. Chris Dingwall put the match beyond doubt with 3 minutes to go with a nice chip that went in off the under side of the bar, ending Benfica?s unbeaten run. Commodores with gain a lot of confidence from this result and will be dangerous for the remainder of the season.
