Frank Broughton Cup – It all comes down to the final round

untitled

After a week of rain, Saturday turned on weather to match the magnificent football and today saw the teams excell  in very wet and cold conditions.
This tournament sees the winners of Group A & C and B & D meet in the semi finals Monday afternoon and these semi final positions are mainly all up for grabs tomorrow morning when Round 3 sees the end of the Round Robin section.
Group A is very exciting with Manly only needing a point from their clash with Granville to secure their place at the top, however Granville, after surprisingly going down to new boys. Western Branch yesterday bounced back today to beat Southern Districts and put Districts into the situation of having to beat Illawarra and rely on Granville beating Manly.  Illawarra, on the other hand can still take top spot by beating Southern Districts if Granville Beat Manly.
Group B winners will come from the very exciting clash of heavyweights St George and Sutherland with Sutherland holding the upper hand with six points, and can either win or draw but the Southern Conference undefeated competition leading St George can snatch the spot if they are able to get the better of the Sutherland team.
Group C also comes down to the very promising clash of undefeated Eastern Suburbs and Central Coast, both on six points, with Eastern Suburbs have a (+4) goals for and against advantage.  Simply, Eastern Suburbs can either win or draw whilst Central Coast need to win for the coveted semi-final spot.
Group D appears to be the only group virtually decided with Ku Ring Gai on six points after winning both matches and for them to miss the semis would need to lose to Gladesville-Hornsby and Bankstown would need to win by at least eight goals.
All in all a very exciting situation going into the last day of competition, with the final Round Robin games commencing at 8.30am tomorrow (Monday) morning and the semis and finals later in the day.
The full draw and all the scores can be found on the Frank Broughton Cup page in the Tournament section of the Competitions tab on this website.
