Port Macquarie ready for the 2008 Australian Schools Football Championships

The tournament gets underway at the Port Macquarie Regional Stadium on Sunday 3rd August following the A-League fixture between the Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory and runs through to the 8th August
NSW are out to retain the boys trophy for a third consecutive year whilst the girls will be vying to regain the winners spot after Queensland snatched victory for the first time in over a decade last year in Darwin.
Players at this year’s event will be in contention for the international tour to Japan and Korea in December 2008
Many stars of Australian football have achieved success at this event, representing their States with distinction. Ranging from the recent with Nathan Burns  (NSW), Dario Vidosic (Qld), Nigel Boogaard (NSW), Ersun Gulum (Vic) and Tarek Elrich (NSW) to current Socceroos: Mark Bresciano (Vic), Mark Schwarzer (NSW) and Patrick Kisnorbo (Vic) to those with distinguished football careers in Ned Zelic (ACT), Tony Vidmar (SA), Steve Corica (Qld), Charlie Yankos (Vic) and Craig Moore (ACT)
Whilst many Australian Schoolgirls who are currently with the Matlidas include; Sally Shipard (NSW), Cheryl Salisbury (NSW), Lisa De Vanna (WA) and Joanne Peters (NSW) along with new talents Kyah Simon (NSW) and Ellyse Perry (NSW) got their first taste of representaive football at this event
Now in its 36th year, the tournament will showcase some of the best youth footballers across Australia and undoubtedly unearth a few of tomorrow’s stars of Australian Football.
