The 22-year-old praised his teammates about the victory but was shocked when he heard FNSW?s Executive Manager, Commercial Services Tony Peters announce his name on the speakers upon winning the ?Man of the Match? award.
?I was surprised to have heard my name as I believe all the boys did well on the day.
?It could have really gone to anyone with the likes of George Nohra, Robbie Mileski and Peter Tsekenis who all played fantastically.
?But I am honoured to have received the award but more importantly, winning the Cup was what my main focus was.?
The former AIS graduate knew that he and his teammates needed to salvage some kind of silverware for 2008 after missing out in this season?s TeleChoice Championship Series having finished seventh on the final ladder.
?The boys were pumped for this match as we knew we needed to take out something for 2008.
?We?re all still shattered at not making the Finals Series but we?re delighted to have put in our all in claiming the Tiger Turf Cup.
?The squad really rose to the occasion and this showed with our performance on the day.?
With the season now over for Makrys, plans have already been put in place to stay on with the 2008 Tiger Turf Cup champions but the midfielder has not written out a dream move to the A-League in the not too distant future.
?As long as ?Tseka? (Peter Tsekenis) and ?Flea? (Peter Papoythis) are at the club I would like to stay on.
?I will sit down and talk to Bankstown in the next few weeks about next year for sure but I hope that if I can get a good season under my belt then hopefully I can get into an A-League squad.?
