The Mariners welcomed back Young Matildas starlets Karina Roweth, Teresa Polias and Kyah Simon who were successful in Qualifying for the AFC U-19 Women?s Championships in 2009; that success maintained the positive moment for the Mariners.
Simon was instrumental in Canberra, scoring two second-half goals to secure a 2-1 win against Canberra United, despite the side playing the second-half with only ten players following the sending off of goalkeeper Lisa Hartley.
The Mariners face Queensland Roar in Round 4 W-League action this weekend in a match that provides the youthful outfit with an immense chance to make a statement in the competition.
Coach Stephen Roche is looking forward to the job at hand:
?I am really happy with the way the team is performing, especially the way that they have stuck to a game plan over the past couple of weeks.
?Against Queensland we face a difficult test against a more experienced side though we will be up to the challenge I?m sure.?
Roche was very satisfied with the return of his Young Matildas? representatives, paying homage to their ability to back up for a match following a hectic playing schedule with the National team:
?The girls did really well with the matches they played with the Young Matildas, along with the travel involved also. I?m very impressed with their efforts,? concluded Roche.
The Central Coast Mariners Women?s team hosts Queensland Roar in a battle between two of five sides leading the way with 6-points on the League ladder. Kick-off time is scheduled at 6:00 pm at the Campbelltown Stadium.
