Mariners’ women hold slim hopes of finals berth

The Mariners need a win by five-goals against Melbourne Victory in the televised ABC match of the round, with both Sydney FC and Perth Glory failing to defeat Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets respectively, to snatch fourth-spot.
Despite the mammoth task at hand, coach Stephen Roche is confident his players are up for a big encounter at Parramatta Stadium.
?The morale is still high, the girls are in good spirits and everyone is carrying the attitude that we can still make the finals should we win by five goals,? commented Roche.
The Mariners were defeated by Queensland Roar at Ballymore last weekend, a loss that left Central Coast with this huge task in the final round of the regular season.
?We played well against Queensland, as we have done throughout the season. Our team is very young and we are inexperienced, so it really does come down to this inexperience that has seen us drop so many points.
?We had our chances against Queensland though look at the calibre of players the Roar possess. That made our job difficult, though I am happy with the way the girls played and I am confident that we will put out a good show this weekend,? Roche concluded.
With Melbourne Victory also in need of points to hold on to fourth spot, the Parramatta Stadium encounter promises to be a true blockbuster.
Kick-off is set for 4:00 pm, with the ABC offering live television coverage of the match.
