Coach Pat Faga and his young Stallions outclassed New Zealand’s Waitakere City FC in the final of the Pacific Cup with a 2-0 win at Marconi Stadium last Sunday.
The win ensures Marconi a position at the prestigious tournament to be held at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, in August.
The Stallions enjoyed the weekend as a team, with several training sessions and a night at a hotel in Parramatta adding to the importance of the occasion.
The intense preparation paid dividends for Daniel Adamson and Jake McGing, with the pair scoring a goal each to cement their side’s place in England.
“I think we were fairly intense and scrambled well when we had to,” coach Pat Faga said.
“The Kiwis were quite strong and fast but we counter-acted them with our pace and strength.”
Marconi will have to be at its best if they are to challenge the likes of A.S Roma, West Bromich Albion and Manchester United when they depart Australian shores on August 3.
“To be honest I don’t think it has sunk in yet for the boys,” Faga said.
“But they’re pumped.”
The Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals will commence on the 4th of August 2009 and conclude on the 8th of August 2009.
