South Coast and Wakehurst stake their claims on the State and Sydney Cup semi-finals
The South Coast region has made an all-out assault on honors this year with six teams in the semis, Figtree with the 11 boys and 18 women, Fernhill 14 women, Balgownie and Warilla 15 boys and the University of Wollongong All Age women. Not to be out-done, the Wakehurst Soccer Club from the north of Sydney also has six teams from the one club remaining in the semis, an outstanding feat and they are chasing glory with their 13 boys, 14 boys, 18 men, 12 women, 14 women and 16 women. Miranda (12boys, 18 women All Age men) and Lilli Pilli (16 boys, 18 boys, 14 women) each have three teams vying for the finals.
In fact the Lilli Pilli Club will be represented by their recently crowned 2009 Under 16 FFA Team of the Year after their all conquering exploits of 2008 which saw them take all before them.
A highlight match-up will see Brookvale (2008 winners) play University of Wollongong in the semis in a repeat of last year, when Brookvale came away 1-0 victors. The Uni girls will no doubt be looking for revenge.
Whilst in the 21?s we still have last year?s beaten finalists St Patricks who will still be hurting after going down by the dreaded golden goal in the 2008 Final.
And of course, the all conquering Castle Hill United Over 35 team are still alive in the semi final race and this is no surprise given the fact they have added the extremely talented Brendan Renaud to their 2008 squad after winning both the State Cup and the Champion of Champions in 2008.
This weekend will see all the winners come together on Sunday 5th July at Valentine Sports Park where the finals will be staged before a huge audience which will revel in the feast of football provided by those teams vying for State Cup and Sydney Cup success.
The full draw can be located on the State, Robertson & Bill Cullinan Cup and Sydney Cup pages which can be found under the Competitions > Tournaments link.
