Futsal Winter State League Women’s Grand Final Review

V.I.M made their way to the final when they accounted for Hachies in the Semi Final, after an impressive group phase were they won eight and had two draws in their ten games and were undefeated minor premiers.
Sydney City Quake on the other hand made their way to the final after a hard fought victory over Force 10. Sydney City Quake had a mixed dag in the group phase finishing third, having four wins, three draws and three losses.
In the opening exchanges Sydney City Quake looked impressive and put V.I.M under pressure from the opening whistle. Sydney City Quake should have opened the scoring after some great lead up work by Claire Walsh and Stephanie Haim, however Caitlin Jarvie shot went just wide.  V.I.M were not so wasteful when against the run of play Nicole Laws put V.I.M into the lead when Sydney City Quake failed to clear the ball and it fell nicely to Laws who?s right foot strike flew into the back of the net.  Sydney City Quake then lifted the tempo and began to hold possession and could have equalized minutes later when Haim right foot effort was well saved by Tani Rosekelly in the V.I.M goal. V.I.M was starting to look frustrated and the tackles started to fly in. One of these fouls resulted in Jarvie being fouled inside the ?D?, from the resulting penalty Jarive made no mistake placing the Rosekelly?s right. V.I.M looked dangerous on the counter attack through Natalie Spirovski and Renee Tomkins. Sydney City Quake then had a golden chance to take a deserved lead however Ashley Francis could not connect and her shot flew well wide.  At half time it was a Sydney City Quake had the momentum but the scores remind locked at one-all.
The second half it was a different V.I.M side that came out and they took the game to Sydney City Quake. First chance of the half fell to V.I.M fell to hard working Jenna Kingsley but her effort was straight at Ashley Brown in the Sydney City Quake goal. V.I.M was in the mood and some of the combinations left Sydney City Quake ball watching at times. Sydney City Quake could have extended the lead on the break when Brown?s long throw found Francis in space but she could not beat the advancing Rosekelly.  Haim then all but scored after her step over beat her opponent and her effort hit the near post from an acute angle. V.I.M extended their lead when Laws?s great diagonal through ball picked out Amanda Bowering on the right and her first time effort beat Brown on the near post. V.I.M then wrapped up the championship when Renee Tomkins found her way through on goal and her right foot strike flew into the back post to all but seal victory.
Congratulations to both sides on an entertaining game of Futsal and if this is anything to go by the Premier League women?s competition were well worth was watch.
