19’s Girls & Boys Futsal Schools State Championship

On Monday September 14TH the 19 Girls & Boys Regional Champions and Runners Up from across the state descended on the Penrith Valley Regional Basketball Stadium. They all had one goal in mind: to be crowned State Champions for 2009.
With many experienced Futsal players featuring across the majority of the line ups, most of the games showcased spectacular action from the beginning as teams tried to qualify for the knock out stages of the tournament. The closeness of the competition is reflected by the fact that in most groups only goal difference separated those schools that went on and those who failed to survive the round robin stage.
As good teams fell by the wayside, the cream of Schools Futsal began to rise to the top.
In the Girls Semi Finals Monte San Angelo established themselves as the team to beat with a convincing 6 ? 0 win over a gallant Albion Park outfit. However, Erindale College were not to be intimidated as they defeated Domremy College 4-3   in a great game in the other Semi Final. The Grand Final would not disappoint as goal followed goal until, in the end, Monte prevailed by 4-3 in a magnificent game of Futsal. Two great teams, at the top of their form, gave us a superb exhibition of attacking Futsal.
The Boys were not to be denied. All Saints College were always in control against a very determined Homebush Boys, running out winners by 5-3 in their Semi Final. The other Semi Final became an end-to-end affair with Liverpool Boys just edging out St Clair by 4-3. Coming into the Grand Final, Liverpool Boys HS were looking to avenge their loss to All Saints at their Regional Championship GF earlier in the year. The final score of 3-1 to All Saints, in an excellent game, crowned them State champions and established them as the best team in the competition. Liverpool tried very hard but met a superior team on the day.
FNSW Futsal would like to thank all the schools, teachers, players and spectators involved. A very special mention to the referees who officiated, tirelessly, throughout the day: to you, gentlemen, a very big thank you.
All in all, a great day of Futsal.
