Futsal Womens Premier League: Quake girls hit Benfica for six

The Quake took an early lead when skipper Leesa Thompson intercepted a ball out of defence and immediately set up Stephanie Haim who coolly slipped the ball under the keeper and into the net.
An out of sorts Benfica never looked comfortable in the oppressive summer heat and fell further behind when Leesa Thompson crashed a long range shot through a swarm of players that the keeper saw late and failed to hold, the ball fell to Lindas Dudek who slammed the ball home from close range.
Campbelltown were dominating possession and pressurising the Benfica defence and could have had more. Linda Dudek raced clear but her attempt was well saved by Jessica Abi-Sassine in goal, Haim scuffed a shot wide and Claire Walsh had a shot well saved by Abi-Sassine.
Benfica were fighting hard and trying to hit back hard on the break with Chanel Turner having her shot tipped away for a corner by stand-in keeper Rebecca Nelson.
Two minutes before half time the Quake went further ahead when Sarah Semaan scored the goal of the game when she seized on a ball being passed out of defence ran on and smashed her shot into the corner of the net to give her side a 3-0 lead.
Into the second half and Lauren Ralston had a shot tipped away by Abi-Sassine in goal,  Benfica?s Maryanne Mikhail had her shot saved by Rebecca Nelson and Stephanie Haim put a nice through ball for Linda Dudek but her shot was bravely blocked by the keeper.
The Quake went further ahead when Lauren Ralston was fouled on the edge of the area. In an excellent move Leesa Thompson shaped to hit the ball hard through the wall but instead cleverly passed the ball to Linda Dudek who nicely slipped the ball to Stephanie Haim to slot the ball past the keeper and defenders to make it 4-0.
Campbelltown extended their lead when a Linda Dudek cross from wide on the left deflected off a defender into the net to make it five.
Benfica looked demoralised in the heat but to their credit maintained their rearguard effort as the Quake kept coming at them. Jessica Abi-Sassine made a great double block to deny Claire Walsh and Lauren Ralston was unlucky as her effort from out wide grazed off the post and away to safety.
Stephanie Haim rounded off a fine hat-trick when she combined with Leesa Thompson to slot home the final goal.
Near the end Benfica?s Rhiannon Horne nearly pulled a deserved goal back for the visitors when she snuck forward but her shot was well blocked by Rebecca Nelson in goal.
Benfica didn?t look on their game but much to their credit kept repelling waves of attacks from the Quake. In the end they were no match for the league leaders who pressed their opponents hard, moved the ball around at speed and cruised to a comfortable victory.
