Lisandro Berbis Named South Coast Wolves Captain for 2010

Confident he can spearhead his young side to glory in 2010; the Argentinean born defensive midfielder is ready for battle this year.
Although not the most vocal player, Berbis was offered the captaincy based on his consistency and presence on the field. Now in his sixth year in the NSW Premier League, Coach Trevor Morgan believes he has the right skipper for the job.
?I know he will take responsibility and I am looking to use him a lot this year,? said Morgan.
?Lisandro is adapting well to what I want him to do and his experience is an extra bonus to the young squad we have.
?As for the speech making… well that?s something we can work on,? he added.
Conscious that he does not have the knowledge of a 34-year old for example, Lisandro is more than confident his experiences will help him take the reins in the right direction for his new club.
?I have experienced highs and lows in the past six years in the NSW Premier League. From winning the 2006 Grand Final with Sydney United to missing the whole of 2008 through injury, I feel I am now ready to handle any situation? said Berbis.
?I?ve had some excellent captains in the past so if I take what I have learnt from them and add a bit of my own personality I think I will be fine,? he added.
?Lizzy?, as he is known to his teammates, will play a more defensive role for the Wolves; using his strength and vision to help provide his strikers and attacking midfielders the assistance they need. His ability to read the game and his never say die attitude will unboundedly be an asset to the 4-3-3 formation Trevor is looking to play this year.
Optimistic about the year ahead, the 24-year old Sydneysider believes the relatively young age of the squad is indeed a strength and not weakness.
?I know that other teams will see that we are young, unknown and playing a new style of football as a weakness,? said Berbis.
?However, I encourage us [Wolves] to see it as a strength; that we are a young team full of energy and ideas which other teams won?t know what to expect.
?I have total belief that we will reach all the goals set up by the committee and the players.
?We will not have a repeat of last year, that?s for sure,? he added with confidence.
